The “I’m gonna be a dad” line might be the cringiest line of dialogue I’ve seen in any TV show
Absolutely awful. Me and my wife just looked at each other when it was delivered. She asked me if it was in the game and I said absolutely not. I loved the first game and liked the second. They are absolutely butchering the characters after season 2 episode 2.

Noone expects the people that always cry about female characters to enjoy it. we expect you to try to nitpick every other aspect of the show. it's nothing new. we knew it would happen before the first episode of season 1 was released as soon as we got to this part of the show.
I’m a pretty staunch defender against people who are bitching with an agenda. I think most here know that (or have had those discussions with me). And yes, there is some of that with the usual suspects
The issue at this point is Ramsey as Ellie. It’s a huge glaring issue. And I couldn’t care less about her looks or the actor being non-binary. It being a gay relationship doesn’t bother me in the least. There is just no chemistry there between the characters. And while I think Ramsey really acted well in Joel’s death scene, she feels really flat in other interactions at this point. It’s missing her chemistry with Pedro Pascal in that Father/Daughter dynamic.
I’ll keep watching because I want to see more of Wright and the Seattle folks. But I’m disappointed in the lack of nuance and chemistry in the main storyline at this point.

Her reactions to certain situations is just awful. Her demeanor is usually the opposite of what it should be. Don’t know if it’s her limitations as an actress or just absolutely awful writing. Probably both.

But, she backed House Stark so, there's that.

I think his go to YouTuber doesn't hate it so he can't either.

She definitely has her limitations, but the writing is the bigger problem this year. Chernobyl was so amazing that we expected so much more from Mazin. This has been disappointing.

It's nothing about any agenda type stuff, the attractiveness she lacks for being cast as a 14 year old last season, how many 1s and 0s she identifies with or anything like that for me --- It's the acting and lack of screen presence along with writing that does her no favors.

Basically take anything you could have liked from the games and make it worse and you have this show.

She has no passion. Ellie needs a fury that Bella just can’t muster.
She’s a limited actress, she just isn’t the right fit.
It sucks.

I played the first game but not the 2nd, I’ve seen just about all the clips though. I thought Ellie was kind of dark and put off and full of rage after Joel. Is this not the case? These past 2 episodes they make Ellie out to be this sort of immature dumb dumb, no rage or sadness and sort of a goofball lol.

Again, Bella has no range.
Young Ellie is silly and brings out the humanity in Joel.
She did a decent job of that in season 1.
This version of Ellie can't have that level of goofiness. Post Joel Ellie is a menace to society.

According to Programming Insider, the The Last of Us Season 2 premiere drew 938,000 linear viewers in the United States, but the very next week only 643,000 fans tuned in—a staggering 31.5% drop.
Episode 3 saw a modest rebound to 768,000 viewers, yet that figure remained 170,000 short of the opener.
That number is soon to be…
Cable viewers were up again for this weeks episode. These numbers don't count viewers on the app but should be around 20% of the total viewers.
Episode 1 had 938,000 on the HBO channel but got an additional 4.3 million on the streaming app.

Second, I’m not a C420 hater. I’m in the group with I like good stuff. Championing this show right now is nonsense.
Many of us give a care about good storytelling, acting , etc. I don’t see why you’re fighting this battle.

I don’t mind her being increasingly capable. Especially with Joel’s skills surely deteriorating even more than they were in S1. Another plot device that would have been much more interesting than what we’re getting. And to add to your point, Ellie’s humor just does not work when her partner is also a wisecracking 18 year old lesbian who is also very capable

So mazin/druckmann came out and said a lot of Seattle wlf/seraphites stuff was cut because they weren't sure they were gonna get to do season 3.
That just seems crazy to me that they really thought they were on the chopping block so much so that they cut stuff to find an "ending" that would work in case they didnt get renewed

It’s not crazy at all. They are just making excuses.

Not to excuse the poor writing, but I mentioned this a little bit in some other recent HBO/Max show threads.
Some other shows, it feels like, had to alter the writing at the end of the season when Discovery/WB took over because there were a shite ton of shows on the chopping block for the shitty reality shows they push. And I get the feeling that some of those shows are STILL being dangled in the "you might be cancelled" limbo and we're getting weird endings to seasons that feels like it could be an "ending" but they are revived.
Management of the network with the Discovery people are fricking up some good writing and in this case, making poor writing even worse.

The problem is that the story is already written, and it ends one way. They’ve already changed some things for the worse and cutting the wlf vs seraphites when that could use MORE detail is such a miss. It all goes back to picking the wrong Ellie, and now they’re stuck.

If tweet fails to load, click here. The real concern is how many more projects this goblin will be shoe-horned in over the next decade.

Still mindboggling that they cast her. We could've had Spaeny.
Crazy that Fede Alvarez based all the Alien Romulus characters on LOU2 characters since he was playing it while he wrote the script, and the Dina correlate he cast ended up being Dina in TLOU show
