Disagree. While he’s certainly not the only doctor to survive, he’s very likely the only one who knew about Ellie and had a procedure designed that he thought would end this.
Doctor Dad and Abby selling the “we can save humanity” story would likely make it fairly easy to build another bigger crew to go after her.
Not saying that entered his calculus in that brief moment, but it might have

So pulled up the scene to rewatch it.
Joel asks the doctor to unhook Ellie. The doctor picks up a scalpel and tells Joel no. Joel shoots him in the head. The two nurses/assistants in the room unhook her, Joel makes them turn around, and leaves.
I think it was as simple as the doctor picked up his scalpel and refused in close quarters, so Joel instinctively eliminated the potential threat. He didn’t have time to frick around with some guy who was going to fight him over Ellie. Not when he was technically outnumbered in the room.

Not to mention there may have been more soldiers there and if Dr starts yelling for help, Joel would've been in trouble trying to get her out.

yes you’re right about the scalpel I had forgotten that but still…a fatal head shot wasn’t warranted there. Anyway, the point is Joel knew what he did was unforgivable and when abby had him pinned you could see it in his face that he knew whatever she was going to do, he had it coming
the doctor was not a threat in any way that justified what he did. He could have easily used non lethal means

I am killing him and I will explain why.
1. Every second I spend dealing with the trio of allied healthcare professionals lowers Ellie's and my chance of getting out of there alive. I don't have time to waste subduing and restraining him and potentially the scrub nurses. It well could be me or them, I have the advantage and I ain't giving it up.
2. I am not wounding him that is a tenant of carrying a deadly weapon. If you chose to use it you kill. Closing with him even if it requires a lucky strike I could be laying in the floor bleeding out from a punctured femoral artery.
3. I stopped him from murdering what is effectively my surrogate daughter, and even if I don't admit i,t her safety is in my charge. By setting aside his morals (I assume) and his ethical duty, even for some seemingly Utilitarian pursuit, he clearly eshewed those tenets of his former world. I am just meeting him in the mental world he has accepted.
4. He raised a deadly weapon to me, and said, "I won't let you take her." Sorry doc you chose the fight I just ended it. We ain't in Kansas anymore, everyday is life or death. I got shite to do and places to be and don't have time for your shenanigans. I can't safely, quickly and effectively deal with three people, any one of which could go rouge and kill Ellie and make my efforts moot. Plus, while I am disarming him one of the nurses could come up behind me and hit me with a big fat syringe of milk of amnesia.

So know the protagonist and the antagonist are two unattractive females? The first season was good but I don’t see myself watching it anymore.

You think Dever is unattractive?
I mean shes not a supermodel but shes better than most

Kaitlyn Dever is cute as frick. Not hot, maybe. But cute. She’s also a good actress.
And compared to the other co-lead, she’s a smokeshow 10.

Upset you cant jerk it to Pedro anymore?

She’s very girl next door (Devers). And I’d find someone suspect if they said she wasn’t attractive.

Well her Abby certainly looks better than the game version at least.

quote:Terrible take. This was the best episode of a tv show I’ve seen this year and I’ve never even heard about the video game once in my life outside of these “NO GAME DISCUSSION” threads. I hate that Joel was killed off and caught me completely off guard but I’m invested after that solid episode.
Correct. The Stans & bots loved it.
Even Grace Randolph is abandoning reviews of further episodes.
Normies who never played the game but enjoyed their post apocalyptic TV are gonna dip out.
I’m behind an episode or 2 because I rewatched season 1 first when the second season came out because I would’ve forgotten too much. Evidently others should’ve done the same with some of the questions I’ve read
Pretty difficult to skim through the comments to find anything regarding the actual episode so far throughout the first couple episode threads of this season. such an obnoxious shitshow reading the back and forth in every thread between Corinthians and the anti-woke crowd though.
I’m as anti-woke as they come but my God why tf do you people even watch and troll these threads so fricking much if you can’t stand it? They’re like the thought police, they’re so triggered that they have to make sure everyone around them has to not like it too. Hopefully they stick to their word and gave up on the show after Joel’s death and aren’t mucking up the current episodes threads with their trigger of the week
Shoutout to BluegrassBelle and Cocomo for the most part who stays on topic answering show questions amidst all the bullshite. Appreciate reading your thoughts
