Wait, how do you think gay dudes have sex?
They pee in each other's butts?

Gay sex grosses me out at a basic level.
Can I skip this episode and read a synopsis?
I guess we won't know until the end of the season. I may stop watching, and ask again after the finale.

You can definitely skip it if you're worried about something actually mattering with the story going forward. This was an offshoot love story that had nothing important in it. There was a letter that was given to Joel at the end telling us something we already know... Joel cared for Tess.
Edit: I say this, but fast forwarding the gay stuff is easy enough. There's probably 15 minutes screen time with Joel and Ellie and 60 minutes of Bill and Frank. The important stuff happened in those 15 minutes with Joel and Ellie.

You said that gay sex is not "even implied."
No I didn’t dipshit. I VERY CLEARLY said that “gay dick in the arse” was not shown or implied…and it wasn’t.
The dude even said “we’ll start with the easy stuff”

Any synopsis you read is going to focus on the gay propaganda so I’ll tell you what you need to know from this episode.
Joel and Ellie found a working truck and are traveling in it now, and Ellie stashed a handgun in her backpack without Joel knowing. That’s it.
Interesting but not necessary info from the episode:
The outbreak likely started at the flour plant mentioned in episode 2 and it quickly spread and hit everywhere at the same time because it went into products sold all over the world.
Ellie’s sadistic side is revealed a little more when she finds an infected away from Joel and kinda plays with it before she kills it.

Your synopsis left out that, in the initial outbreak, the government was forcing mandatory evacuation to quarantine zones and if they didn't have room they just murdered men, women, and children that were perfectly healthy.

I wish someone else had played Bill because I just couldn't unsee Ron Swanson.

I can see ron as being at least partly behind the romance scenes.
Just because he knows it will make some of his fans uncomfortable lol

Offerman absolutely crushed this entire episode. If the only thing that comes out of this episode is him winning an Emmy, then it was worth it.

He really is a great actor. The White Lotus guy as well. But I don't know about an Emmy for just one episode.

Again. I know exactly what you said. Now I’m curious as to what you think “implied” means. Also what “start with” means.

That was a decent enough explanation for me, and I liked that it was a semi logical reason for shite going down in basically a weekend.
And Roaad, you can quite literally watch the first 15 minutes and the last 15, and get all the info you need from the episode.

I have plenty of gay friends, and I have asked the question. "I do anal sometimes with female partners, and it is fun occasionally as a change of pace, but it is just so damned untidy. Is that REALLY your primary sex act?" The answer is uniformly "no," for exactly the same reason. Oral seems to be the "go to" for most gay guys.
So, I do NOT see that "gay dick in arse" was implied in that scene. To the contrary, the implication was for oral. Hell, it seem pretty damned EXPLICIT that oral was the plan that time.

I think they do give out Emmy’s for that. I remember huge movie stars would always get an Emmy for appearing in one episode of a sitcom.

i mean its pretty plausible for tv zombies. of course there would be major areas not directly hit by the tainted product. but given the delayed onset its not too crazy some infected folks bridged exposure to those areas.
also id imagine some people who survived the initial apocalypse would not know that shite was tainted. and maybe wiped out bands of first wave survivors trying to scavenge/loot in the aftermath.

Hey look, I'm glaad you liked all the gay kissing and sex stuff. I could've done without it, and it took away from the story a good bit for me (since it was all ultimately useless).

My main gripe with the episode was Frank the “survivalist” coming out of cover into the middle of the street to engage multiple hostiles. Come the frick on people jesus.
That and only mildly advancing main character seem like a big issues for what you say “was the best episode by far and imo took the show to the next level” and “was a great episode as a standalone in the world”.
Maybe Frank just came out as less survivalist and more really wanting to be a bottom in the show. Sorry that type of bad gay man triggers you.
Probably the first HBO show where critics will not push the overly gratuitous sex scenes as being overly gratuitous sex scenes and unnecessary to plot advancement in their reviews.
And of course it’s weird and unnatural for heterosexuals. Isn’t heterosexual sex and thought of tits & vaginas weird and unnatural for gay men? Outside of saying something positive publicly just to advance their politics I doubt lesbians were intimately glued to their tv watching the gay sex scene.
Showing Gay relationships in depth for most of an episode is also going to be seen as odd for guys that don’t view guys sexually or intimately.
If Sexuality isn’t a choice then why would the majority of population be interested watching gay sex scenes and not get disappointed in an episode focused on gay intimacy and gay sex to the point that it only mildly advances main character and messes up Frank’s survivalist skills.
