Bill was lonely, never had any gay interactions in his life before Frank showed up. Maybe he was previously gay, maybe he wasn’t. I don’t think it took away from the story or added to it. It was just the story

I got the impression that he was likely closeted (he mentioned the Linda Rondstadt love song he played on the piano wasn't about a girl) or had an interaction that wasn't sexual.

Or the biggest indicator: he knew what sort of wine paired with rabbit

Yeah, I think he probably was or at least had some curiosity and when you get to the end of the world and can go months or longer without seeing another face I think he said frick it at that point.

Or that he lived alone with his Mom until her death.

I have a very gay cousin that is a sommelier, lives with his Mom (now taking care of her), and likes Linda Rondstadt.

It hit some solid stereotypes.

Frank had some disdain for 80’s music

He said “80’s means trouble, obviously”, when he was first laying out the code to Tess.

They literally never showed this, or even implied it.

Say what? Are you suggesting that sex wasn't even implied?

He told him to take a shower.
He grabbed his towel and got him naked.
They were in bed together.
He asked him if he had ever done it before.
He laid on top of Bill naked.
They then kissed.
They started kissing and almost went prone on top of the strawberries.

Saying that nothing sexual was implied is almost as stupid as MLS detailing anal seepage and adult diapers.

That was great.

Also thought it was a nice touch to find out how the code was created. And a nice tie back into the end of the previous episode where we end it with the 80s music playing on the radio (trouble).

Curious if others also know about that code that are at the Boston QZ (or even other QZs) and if they will respond because the code indicated trouble was played.

That's one thing I wouldn't have caught had we not had the captions on. It was in the background and the dialogue was going on at the same time that Bill and Joel were talking.

I was surprised that Joel was so anti listening to that tape once they got in the truck. I imagine that outside of a code every now and then, they don't hear music very often. And obviously the radio wouldn't really work or pick up the local DJ spinning tunes.

Of course, for someone like him maybe he just wanted to stay hyper-focused on the road and everything around them to be aware of their surroundings and any approaching threats. Who knows.

I never said that. Read the post again that you are replying to and show me where “gay dick in the arse” sex is shown or implied.

Director Peter Hoar, here standing, recently tweeted that his husband just finished a new book-"Anything You Can Cook, I Can Cook Vegan."

And of course you are 100% correct.

At least 50% correct. The complaint about pacing would still be there, but the vitriol would be dialed back significantly.

I think the ending saves it from being a complete mess, and in the end the story progresses as it should. But devoting 50 minutes to these 2 characters who are now dead came across more like virtue signaling than a framing device.

I think you're probably hitting it on the head in that he's wanting to stay hyper-focused with the task at hand, no distractions, etc.

I also think that allows him to emotionally stay in a very closed-off lane. He's comfortable not getting attached to anyone right now, especially after what just happened with Tess (and we learn they've been partnered up for at least 16 years from the last episode).

I know what you said. You said that gay sex is not "even implied." Sex between two gay men was very heavily implied. And by definition, does what you said not constitute "gay sex?"

Correct. His "we keep our histories to ourselves" line backs that up as well. Like you (or someone else earlier) said, Ellie is a job to him at this point and nothing more. And he wouldn't even be doing this if he didn't think she held some sort of value on the other end, and he will use that value to get to his brother if it came to it (at least at this point before he grows any attachments to Ellie).

Also, this is completely random, but am I the only one who can't fricking stand how Joel says "Ellie"? It drives me crazy.

That is an excellent way to sum up this episode for me, and I agree 100%.

Replying to first thread. I found it boring and having not played the game don't get why we got so much of a characters backstory only for him to be dead already.

Can we stop talking about gay sex?

That scene was like 30 seconds long.

This fvcker needs to walk out of there strapped until he can barely walk and that truck is riding on its axels there’s so much ammo and guns in it.

This. Bill playing in the street and the truck not being loaded to the gills are unforgivable given how much time and effort they put in to the relationship aspect of this episode.

How could they miss things so fundamental?
