It is the same posters in this thread as in the House of Dragon threads. You cannot criticize anything, no matter if it is obvious or not. I mean a discussion board is meaningless if everyone is like "great show" "yeah great show" etc.
I think Carson nailed it but this episode did do some things well. It showed that kids in this world never got to be kids. Things we take for granted, they never seen. It also showed that even having innocent fun can be dangerous.
It also shows that no matter how long they train, they are still teenagers and they don't adhere to their training, poor training that it maybe. The Fireflies or Riley should have did a thorough sweep through that mall before anyone set up shop there. That funguy has been there the whole time and should have been dealt with long ago.

Growing up, if I cursed in front of elders or my parents it would have happened only that one time. Also, she had at least 4 different mentors, and no one taught her any manners? C’mon man… It’s ridiculous.
Some people just can't suspend disbelief in a fictional show

Riley said she'd been staying there for 3 weeks. It's been working. Were we supposed to have a 30 minute explanation of how the power got hooked up?
There is no explanation for the mall power working after 20 years. It was just ridiculous Dawson's creek for lesbians crap.

We definitely won't see you complaining in next weeks thread.

I dunno, how about "yes sir or no ma'am" That's kinda what military troops have said for the last 200 years up until this year.

Ellie would never been attracted to that chic. Dina had a hot little body so I understand that but this was just gross.

For all we know the last two episodes are 90-120 minute epics, GOT style.
The last episode will actually be the shortest of the season. Its 45 mins in length. I was surprised by that.

Well said
After the last couple of episodes this felt like kind of a dud. More world building I reckon.

That was just really bad. They could have sped things up and showed what actually happened to her friend. Now they’ll have to revisit that in the next episode. Snooze.
No, we're done with Riley. To show what happens would minimize the impact of something Ellie says to Joel later. She will complete it with her words.
I know how Druckman operates.

Meh, possible.
What is crazy is that in a post-apoplectic world over run by fungus zombies, Riley figuring our the finishing maneuvers in Mortal Combat was the most unbelievable.

It’s telling there isn’t even a gamers thread on this show this week….

those of you complaining about the cussing are hilarious.
Nobody cares about cussing itself. I work in industrial construction, every other word I hear on a daily basis is "frick" or "motherfricker"

The cussing in context of the show is just not woven well into the script. We have adults trying to write teenage dialogue and it feels like they use cursing as a crutch. That's all. It worked and felt natural in Sopranos and The Wire. Not so much with this.

Pretty sure she said when they rewired to light the Boston QZ grid, they didn’t realize the mall was also on the same grid. Hence the power.

No doubt. Every episode is good and well-made if you look at each one in a vacuum. This one just didn't work in the grand scheme of the show from a timing and pacing perspective. Being that this is the second time this has happened, it just tells me that the showrunners are lacking a certain deftness in their approach.
Bottom line - the individual parts of the show are greater than their sum.

They were too busy losing their shite because a teenager is cussing to catch that part

Eh, when the major complaints is teenagers cussing too much and MUH GAYS it’s a bit ridiculous. Especially when folks have confirmed those characters being so are canon to the game itself. Maybe at that point folks should just stop watching instead of rage posting about it every week.
I can understand the pacing complaints. I just don’t think it means the show is the worst ever/terrible because of it. Especially when we’re part of the way into Season 1.

I don't know what it says about me that I didn't notice the cursing
