The irony that “Just Like Heaven” was the carousel song by The Cure - well played.

I haven't watched it yet, but those of you complaining about the cussing are hilarious.

Note to self to stay away from post show threads with character build and slow pacing.
Also if there’s large amounts of ghey and pouty mouth.

What's with all the same sex relationships in this show?
I'm still enjoying this show but 2 episodes they've wasted with back story that his little to no substance to the main storyline. They use these episodes for their agenda when the main storyline is very intriguing, at least to me.
I don't care that teenage Ellie is confused and I don't care that the paranoid prepper happened to save one dude and fell in love. Only thing this last one explains is where Ellie first got bit and expands on how everyone she cares about seems to die. The prepper episode was just there to show how they got a vehicle and a few supplies then we just fast forwarded to Kansas City.

It’s literally ruining what has potential to be a great show
This is some pearl clutching shite right here

I’ve worked with a variety of teens in a couple different settings for about 20 years now. The cussing didn’t even stand out to me as too much.
And these are teens who have almost exclusively grown up in a post-apocalyptic world. Growing up in a compound where they’re being taught to be Feds who kill Fireflies.
The things people latch on in these threads to lose their mind over is hilarious.

It's as though some of you have never met a teenager before. It would be weird if a Ellie, who has not been raised with great care, wasn't cursing all the time. Teenagers who are raised with manners also curse all the time, they just usually know how to code switch around adults. Teenagers cursing is the most realistic thing about this show.
I've had two in my household, and of course we've all been teenagers as well. And nothing in this show feels natural from a cussing standpoint. Hell, I cuss more than most sometimes, and it's noticeable to me how out of place it feels. Even two friends shooting the shite with each other and giving each other shite doesn't feel like the dialogue between Ellie and Riley.
It honestly feels like they write all the dialogue first, and then go back later and throw in random "fricks" and "shits" and then sit back and go "there we go...now the audience see how edgy and badass she is, and they'll identify with her because cussing is cool." Like that's how it comes off IMO.

I don't think anybody is "losing their minds" over the cussing. But you guys act like this show is beyond reproach when it comes to anything perceived as negative by anybody watching. That's more ridiculous than the gripes themselves IMO.
It's okay for people to not like everything about the show. It's a good show, but it's not THAT good (certainly not yet). To me, the cussing stands out as a pretty big negative for the show. It's forced and out of place and feels weird when I'm watching. I don't give a frick if teenagers cuss, it just doesn't sound like natural dialogue IMO.
Same thing with the gay stuff. Characters can be gay, that's fine. But when it feels overly forced, it becomes a little strange I think. I checked out of TWD after a certain main character left the show, and I saw gripes afterward that basically everybody was gay and people didn't like it. And I'm sure people like y'all were in there talking shite about people who "can't handle gay characters" and chuckling about it to yourselves. But IMO when it becomes overly forced it just feels different and makes the show worse, so I understand the complaints.
It's okay to both like a show and also recognize that it does things very poorly as well. The biggest problem with this one, as mentioned by several other people in the thread, is that the flow of the season so far feels so disjointed.

Where were all the pacing complaints when the 1st two episodes blazed through the first quarter of the game?
The pacing has been variable to this point - there's ebbs and flows like a lot of these types of shows. For all we know the last two episodes are 90-120 minute epics, GOT style.
It's too soon to complain this much about pacing when we don't even know what we are in for in the last two episodes.

How is it over forced when it’s following a game adaptation that had gay characters in it?

It really is, I’m enjoying their melt. When did the movie board become a bunch of pearl clutchers

I would say her situation is a highly dysfunctional setting to grow up in. People that are the “mentors” there aren’t worried about teaching those kids manners. They are there to be future soldiers.

Never played the video game but if it can't fill ~9 hours of television it should only be 1 season. Hollywood will milk anything nowadays though. Already getting those Walking Dead waste of time feelings in the first season.
If they want to give us back story show some Firefly scientists researching the fungus and explain the different levels of infected. Feels like there should be some elder brain thing that controls them but they've barely touched on it at all.

No GAME Spoiler, just SHOW SPOILER...
you've been warned...
Ellie is badass. Ellie do not give 2 shits about nuthin'. Ellie is a badass teen with ANGST. Ellie has a friend. The friend is doomed. Wait a minute! Could there be same-sex love in the air! Joel had a woman touch him in bed (which was gross because she was a totally different sex) so this would be refreshing. Look a MALL! Whoa! Partially ransacked it looks perfectly staged. New shoes but screw the soap. HAHAHA! What biting commentary. Mortal Kombat II! She knows Milena's Finishing Move! Awesome. I fall asleep and skip through more. Uh-oh, doom awakens! Please more same-sex love. Yes! Finally!
Good thing it wasn't a cute boy she liked and he turned out to be unmasculine. Whew! Thank you show writers for banging into my head all the hip cool trendy shite going on in the world in a show that takes place in a fictional world. Filler is a generous term. Should explore more amd more all the ways Ellie is BADASS and Joel has feelings (maybe he really wants a boyfriend! fingers-crossed)

I agree with you sometimes shows get milked due to episode order sizes and whatnot, but I think it being in the 1st season it's almost necessary to make you understand the characters motivations.
If they are still doing this shite in seasons 2,3 etc. more than once a season I can see the complaint, but we are still early.
As someone who has played the game my perspective does not get hung up on the pace, bc I'm grateful the show exists and being produced at the level of quality it deserves.
Again to each his/her own but for me it's too early to complain about pacing since the entire audience (not just the gamers) need to learn about these characters to care about them, and we still don't know how this season ends yet.
