Scorsese
De Niro
Pacino
Pesci

I really, really hope this is good. Feels almost like a send-off film for all 4 of these guys.

I think the last time we saw Joe Pesci in a serious acting role, it was in Lethal Weapon 4.

Great book. I'm totally convinced that's the guy that killed Hoffa. Pacino doing an ok midwest accent. Not sure he will be the best Hoffa. Nicholson's looks better. I think this will be a winner.

Feels like it's been years since it was announced. Absolutely excited as this may be the last time we see Joe Pesci on film.

Scorsese is directing this, so I'm confident it will be really good.

Will it be released in theaters too or just Netflix? Cuz that’s a movie I wanna see at the theater.

Same.

No release date other than "Autumn of 2019". At a minimum they'll release it for a week in L.A. and a few other cities to qualify for the Oscars. The major chains usually demand the option to run any film for at least 90 days, so we'll see if Netflix placates Scorcese and does a full release. They'd be crazy not too.

i am really interested to see how this film is distributed. I cannot imagine Marty allowing for just a limited release run on the big screen.

Netflix has to be breaking the bank for them. I always thought it was a bit bizarre he agreed to make a movie for them.

I think it was originally going to be a Paramount movie, but Paramount pulled out. That's when Netflix moved in.

Odd seeing a movie with Pacino and Deniro where they don't look like they are completely phoning it in.

According to the Journal, Scorcese’s historical drama “The Irishman” -- which is expected to cost at least $173 million -- might be the company’s riskiest bet. The movie will use cutting-edge visual effects that allow stars including Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci to appear at different ages, according to the report. The Journal reported that Netflix bought the rights to “The Irishman” after major studios passed because of budget concerns. “Without Netflix, ‘Irishman’ would not have been made,” sources told the Journal. “I just don’t see [other] studios wanting to dive into these projects anymore. I think they are staying away from the riskier, more mature films, especially dramas.”

studios want comic book crap

Netflix is spending so much money on original film content worldwide it is insane. Triple Frontier was 80M .. this film i believe was 100M.

They are prepping a superhero film now in Atlanta with Melissa Mccarthy that is 70M ....

For context -- Netflix has 90 films on the books for this year and Paramount has 8

Yeah I feel like I have definitely seen some decent movies on Netflix so far. Not sure if I have seen anything that has blown my mind, but they are pumping out solid stuff.

Netflix is kind of at a crossroads. They are about to roll out a $3 per month mobile only plan in India. They currently only have about 5 million subscriptions in India but there's a local streaming service over there that has over 300 million users. If they can just tap into half of that market that will put another $450 million into their warchest.

The Disney service coming out this fall is going to be an industry game changer so Netflix has to come up with ways to stay appealing. Original content will have to play a major role in that.

i just worked with Netflix for the first time in Asia of all places .... their original content production division is growing so fast it's crazy. If anyone has dreams of being a production executive/field producer now is the time.
