the scene where Sonny puts together that it was Paulie who sold out Vito (contact at the phone company).
This and the call from the cop telling Sonny that Vito has been shot were some of Caan's best moments -- he supposedly was furious to learn they had been cut.

They got cut? I swear I see those scenes every time i watch the movie (maybe they have been added in again)?
Definitely cut out of the standard cut. I remember all the times watching the Godfather and it wasn't clear that Sonny was right about Paulie. Just looks like he jumps to that conclusion and takes him out. Takes away some of his competency as a don and makes Sonny seem more impetuous and careless than he actually was.

That’s the difference between Michael and Vito. Vito doesn’t have that hooker killed. Vito would not have killed his brother, unlike Michael. In the opening scene Vito made it clear the boys that beat the undertakers daughter would not be killed. “That is not justice. Your daughter is still alive.” Yes, murder isn’t completely off the table for Vito, but it’s not something he takes lightly.

I like pt2 better by a hair is because Vito > Michael.

I have a theory that part 3 would have been better if they left Al Pacino keep his normal hairstyle.

Obviously not since Johnny Fontaine got the movie part, and that was the intent of Tom's visit.

Was it over the top or, pardon the pun, overkill, probably, but it worked.

Yeah, that too. He definitely aged roughly but no doubt one of the best actors of our era. Also, the time period that 3 came out in was a very weird time for cinema.

No. Fontaine didn't have the physique to nab the movie part in over the top.

Unless of course you're talking about the Robert Loggia role as the a-hole father in law, but that was a bit part and wouldn't have really done anything to revive his career.

After researching this more I now see that while the horse was worth $85 Million in 2021 dollars, the Corleone family was supposedly worth Billions (in todays dollars). Capone had a peak net worth of $100 Million, which is $18.6 Billion in today's dollars. Considering that the Corleone family had vast real estate holdings and interests in importing and in movie studios and theaters and owned judges and senators... I'd assume that their wealth eclipsed Capone's.
