I think it looks pretty obvious that they'll both be Jedi
I don't think so.
I think Rey is Jedi, Finn is the new Han Solo-type character, and Poe becomes the third protagonist and takes on a Wedge Antilles character with a much bigger role.

I'm not so sure about that.

Why does everyone think they will stay with the exact same template as the original trilogy?
That would be awful if they basically just remade the first three with different actors playing the same type of roles. They will switch it up IMO

Luke being the bad guy would just be pissing on the original series for shock value. I could only hope they don't do that

Well we already know that Adam Driver plays Kylo Ren, the bad guy. That isn't a spoiler or anything, that's just a fact. Its not like they've hidden that.
Now if we are talking Luke playing Ren's Master or something, ok. But that isn't the case. It would be ludicrous.
Luke is Obi Wan/Yoda. He thinks he's too powerful so he's in hiding.

Luke is not the bad guy. He's either dead or captured in that scene where he touches R2D2 as its the same scene where the stormtroopers are killing everyone.
EDIT: At least, I hope!

I don't think it will be. I especially don't think the new characters will be related to the old characters.

I agree with this. But Finn will be more combat trained (Trained Trooper) and less Trickster/Scoundrel.

Poe will betray everyone in movie 2

I think Poe is what anakin should've been
He's a hero, a member of the group but not the main character, he is an ace pilot
And he turns to the dark side in a shocking betrayal in the climax of the sequel

There was a set a Star Wars trading cards that leaked a couple of months ago that gave the answer away.

All you guys saying Luke isn't Ren because some other actor is confirmed as playing Ren, what if....

This is what I was thinking. Poe becomes Kylo's apprentice after Kylo strikes down Snoke and Luke. Then Finn and Rey have to step up and fulfill their role as the new Jedi.
I fully believe Finn and Rey will both be Jedi and a Han Solo type character will come along later and won't be Poe or Finn.

Moss, this is a good point and one undoubtedly omitted in my mind due to the fact that I've read most of the EU books. In those, Luke rebuilds the Order. It makes logical sense. But what happens if Luke moves to Dagobah and goes Yoda? Hmmm.... I just didn't see that happening. I don't think its what Ben or Yoda would've wanted for Luke either. We shall see.
Plus, in ANH, people then barely even knew about the force. It was just a forgotten thing.

All of this has happened before, and it will happen again.

I think:
Kylo isn't Force aware. Just a Darth fanboy with a busted light saber.
Poe becomes a Sith (I think that's him fighting Finn in the woods with Kylo's light saber.)
Leia's gonna die. That's how Luke finds out something's up.

A) it isn't the same scene
B) I don't think that's him, the forearm looks more like a woman's, it's really small.
C) And here is where I kinda go off the deep end.
Luke was the one from the prophecy to bring balance to the force. Except Palpatine and Vader, the last two Sith were killed, that isn't balance. The light being the only one used means it's lopsided.
What if Luke has learned to control both sides of the force. WITHOUT being corrupted by it. Truly creating balance within the force. He went into hiding because he knew he needed to avoid teaching it to anyone. As others, not as well versed as him, would still be corrupted. Also, if no one knew where he was, or who his family was, he couldn't be forced into teaching someone.
On top of that. He isn't crazy as some have suggested, but being alone for so long he doesn't do well communicating with others. Also, he has become so powerful that he regularly interacts with Obi Wan, Yoda, Qui Gon, Vader....etc. Others don't see them, so when he talks to them, people around him think he is crazy.
I think it's more plausible than a lot of theories, especially the balancing of the force bit.
