Directed by Michael Showalter and based on a true story, “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” details the rise, fall and redemption of Jim and Tammy Faye during the 1970s and ’80s. The Bakkers went from humble beginnings to creating the world’s largest religious broadcasting network, as well as a Christian theme park. The couple soon soared to fame for their teachings about love and acceptance, but it all came tumbling down when their many secrets were exposed.

Production underway for Season 2!

And I don't personally need to give Jim and Tammy Faye any more attention.

I grew up near Heritage USA, so I'm really looking forward to watching this. Before I started going to school, mama would take me to the mall for ice cream about every week and we would see Tammy Faye in there sometimes.

His wiki is hilarious

quote:

In response to the scandal, Falwell called Bakker a liar, an embezzler, a sexual deviant, and "the greatest scab and cancer on the face of Christianity in 2,000 years of church history".[36] On CNN, Swaggart stated that Bakker was a "cancer in the body of Christ".[32] In February 1988, Swaggart became involved in a sex scandal of his own after being caught visiting prostitutes in New Orleans.[37]

My wife's from Rock Hill and her uncle was actually the lead counsel for PTL for a time. He eventually walked away when he saw all the shenanigans, but she always tells the story of how they had so much pull that the local cable company didn't have MTV as an option for a channel because of all the sinnin' those kids were doing.

I'm too young to remember the scandals, and never gave either one of them much thought except that Tammy Faye wore way too much makeup

Yeah, they didn't have MTV for quite a while. Cable wasn't run to where we lived until pretty late. It was in the early 90s when we got cable and it didn't have MTV. I want to say that MTV wasn't available there until around the mid 90s. I just know that we never got a package that included it, my mama wasn't having that "filth" in her house.

It’s a shame they were crooks, because Heritage USA was really nice. Christmas lights, the activities, water park… PTL was a big deal.

Lot of good memories there of seeing the Christmas lights every year, going to the water park in the summer, going to the mall there. My grandmaw lived there for a few years, so we got out there quite regularly.
