If the ending to season 4 is to be trusted, we know 8 asteroids were launched each with varying impact times. Three have made impact with one being shot down, the other four are still lurking out there possibly.

Edit: Forgot to mention that one flew to close to the sun & burned up.

Thought they answered that in episode 4.

1 got burned up by the sun, 3 impacted, 3 missed, 2 were shot with rail guns.

The scene of Gao's jet getting rocked gave me sweaty palms. She died offscreen in the book. The scene in the show was terrifying.

Haven't read the books, don't know Bull all that much. Looked like he was a red shirt character. Just introduced to Peaches too.

Bull was a POV character in book 3. Most of what happens on board the Behemoth in the slow zone is told through his eyes.

Peaches is just the pet name Amos gave Clarissa Mao / Melba Kohl. She never complains about it or gives any indication that she dislikes it, so Amos keeps calling her that.

I want to say half the earth perishes, so like 15 billion. I’m
Interested to see how the show portrays that because not only does the blast and tsunamis wipe out people but the sky has debris for years. Earth is a gray ball and it leads to the years after being the “starving years” because earth is still pivotal in growing food for the belt and colonies.

I'd expect the show to whitewash this.

Show tells us 100k people died on Eros, but the book reveals 1.5 million.

Book tells that the asteroid impacts and resulting destruction and famine kill about half the earth's population, or 15 billion.

I can't remember how many asteroids impacted in the book though. Feels like 5 or 6.

Pretty sure it was 5 or 6, maybe even 7. The one they showed on the show looked like it hit pretty close to baltimore, so i'm sure they'll show how bleak it all looked when Amos and peaches get out. I'm looking forward to Naomi these next couple of episodes.

Yeah, it was.

I'm happy any time I see a railgun go off.

I liked the part in book 4 when they're using the railgun to drag the belter ship into higher orbit around Ilus. The engineers from the RCE ship are in vac suits, attacking the roci and Alex manages to time his railgun shot just right to hit the chief engineer.

I watched the end of the last episode with kids running around so it was hard to digest. Did it seem that Marco was not just pushing for quality for the belt but setting up the position that belters are a superior race. There seemed to be a whole more there than just equality.

Yea, not a big fan of Marco's method of solving the belters problems. If there problem was truly just oxygen & food, causing destruction on the only place prior to the ring gates that can actually support life is dumb.

As for the military, it seems like the other OPA Factions had that solved via Fred Johnson's plan.

It just smells of a power play rather than about just oxygen & food, and I would bet it involved them stealing the protomolecule somehow.

I think the series version of the ' plight of the Belters ' is way overplayed. I think they doth protest too much, and the 'retribution ' to the inners is a ruse. Marcos and the militant faction of the OPA who took part in the attacks are fanning the flames of hate and division for their own power.

Not an uncommon tactic.

I can understand they’ve been trampled on but they basically see themselves as a different species at this point so they don’t care millions of innocents died.

No one said a terrorist’s actions had to be logical. Dude and his followers are fanatics. They want control more then anything else. Specifically for the belters to control the other two.

Also someone mentioned that the show would probably downplay the deaths compared to the books, and it looks like they have. They said 1-2M are projected dead. I know it’s the initial projection but even the initial projection should be WAY higher. One meteor hit near Bangladesh. That area of the world is the most densely populated place on the planet even today. Also a lot of poverty. The other hit near Philadelphia. The tsunamis caused by the African hit should’ve by itself killed a few million on the coasts of the Americas. The Earth is extremely crowded at that point in the show. So only 2M being even the initial estimate is too low. But I guess the show doesn’t want to pretty much take out Earth’s impact on the rest of the factions.

We got lots of folks here, NOW, who feel the same way. Don't need some futuristic sci-fi story for that.

In other words tribalism is just alive as 100 years ago, as it is now, and will be another 100+ years.

It does seem like more of a power play. But it does kind of make sense. Mars is already dying. Belters just struck a major blow to earth. Now they have just enough military power to fend off anyone else from what's beyond the ring. Everything beyond the ring is now pretty much all theirs with no one to challenge them.
