I thought I remember Fred having some mentions after that scene in the book. Pretty sure he even went to Luna to meet with Chrisjen. Memory is kind of fuzzy on what happened to him.

Oh yea. Hoping he's still alive. Need to watch the episode again. If he dies hopefully he goes out like a boss like he did in the book.

Looking forward to Amos/Peaches in the prison and getting out.

He died on a burn to Luna I think. Holden will take over his role in the book I assume.

Spoiler questions below

1. Where did the first rock land? Best I can tell, possibly the west coast of Africa ? If that's the case, why wasn't there a tsunami all around the Atlantic coastal region , including Baltimore ?

2. Where was the prison that Amos went , to see Peaches? Wasn't it around Pennsylvania? Where the 2nd rock hit ? Again, I'm guessing that shock wave creates havoc at the prison, and leads to their escape.

First rock hit on west coast of Africa. Second hit on eastern coast of US before the tsunami hit I guess.

Prison was in North Carolina in the books.

I thought the 2nd rock hit in PA, or there abouts. I was surprised when they showed the news on the TV about the 1st impact, and them acting so nonchalant about it. It looked pretty big. Not Armageddon big, but still, anything off the coast of Africa would be a real concern for the entire US eastern seaboard. Even if most of the wave energy was directed towards S. America.

There’s a scene where Avasarala and Delgado are discussing the potential impact of the rock that had previously broken up, and Delgado says 1-4 megatons.

For reference, that’s about 100x more yield than Fat Man or Little Boy (roughly 15-20 kT each) and basically on par with a modern high-yield nuclear weapon. There have been multiple tests of nuclear weapons larger than that - Castle Bravo was 15 MT and Tsar Bomba was 50 MT. Tsar Bomba was in the Arctic Ocean, and Castle Bravo was in the Pacific (Bikini Atoll).

ETA: Here’s another reference point - the Chicxulub Crater in Mexico is thought to have been created by the impact that killed off the dinosaurs. Scientists estimate that impact to have released a yield of more than 100,000,000 megatons.

yea. According to the books billions die due to the combined effects of the initial hit plus tsunamis and destroyed food stores. Basically Earth was effectively neutered with one foot in the grave.

That was one of the best episodes of the entire series for me.

Some people have described the events akin to 9/11. When the first tower was hit, people weren’t sure if it was an accident or attack. But once the second one happened people knew. A lot of people were in shock and free. A lot of speculation.

So, we're assuming the rocks uses are all about the same size then? It makes sense, I suppose. I know Tsar Bomba was detonated above ground. Not sure how high.

I guess the poor guy checking out the fish on the shore was just really close to ground zero. Still, that wave looked pretty impressive.

Book spoilers

I want to say half the earth perishes, so like 15 billion. I’m
Interested to see how the show portrays that because not only does the blast and tsunamis wipe out people but the sky has debris for years. Earth is a gray ball and it leads to the years after being the “starving years” because earth is still pivotal in growing food for the belt and colonies.

Yea, Fred dies cause he’s old and the Roci makes extreme maneuvers fleeing the Free Navy. I was surprised Fred died now. But they also brought Bull in after he died in the books and Avasarala was SG before the rocks fell so a few deviations in the books. Along with Drummer being Bull/Michio Pa/Drummer in the books. She’s more Pa last 2 seasons.

This was an amazing episode. Lots of high stakes events and the tension ratcheted up throughout the episode.

I hadn't made it to the part in the books where Fred dies yet, but I'm definitely excited to see Bull.

IMO, the show has always been more interested in turning the hatred/antagonism/bigotry between factions way higher than the books. Bull makes sense for that. I'd expect to see the Tycho faction frick some shite up if Bull takes control.

Haven't read the books, don't know Bull all that much. Looked like he was a red shirt character. Just introduced to Peaches too. Not sure how much to expect them to be treated according to their book versions. Excited to find out though.

I think Bull was more than a red shirt character in the books. Got chapters from him throughout the book when they were in the slow zone. I liked his character quite a bit. By the end of the book he was almost half man half machine. Don't think that's spoilers since the show changed quite a bit and none of us know where they're going with him now.

If the ending to season 4 is to be trusted, we know 8 asteroids were launched each with varying impact times. Three have made impact with one being shot down, the other four are still lurking out there possibly.

Edit: Forgot to mention that one flew to close to the sun & burned up.
