The only possible reason I can think of is that they really want us to like the Filip Naomi story.
Yeah, not happening.

And it killed about 15 billion people in the book. I don't know why the show is trying to whitewash this.
Yeah, that's a pretty big deviation, because the whole impetus for Marco and why it's such an audacious maneuver, is that he's intentionally making Earth uninhabitable and killing the planet in order to make the Belters the rulers of the solar system since they don't need to be "tethered" to Terra. They also recognize that with all the inhabitable planets being discovered through the gate, that Earth will always have a huge advantage within the power structure of things as the birthplace and original bread basket. By making it uninhabitable, he puts everyone on an equal playing field (well, advantages the Belters) in the colonization of the new planets.
And, in the books, it pretty much works, as Earth becomes devastated and appears to be entering a new ice age due to the dust clouds and such in the atmosphere and inability to produce food effectively. Marco doesn't really anticipate how dependent all of humanity is on the "bread basket" of Earth, though.
And not to get too far ahead and spoilery, the books also mention that the Earth is able to recover much better than they anticipated (I think they mention that people are slowly returning and righting things and getting the atmosphere cleaned up and growing such) because of new technology they develop/discover.
Also, in the books... the Naomi storyline is ultimately satisfying, because you see that, ultimately, she's willing to just let go of the situation and move forward. She actually comes across as somewhat cold in the books with her ability to sever ties with the past.

Yep the last few episodes have been a major letdown. I feel like so much of this season has been wasted showing Naomi cry on Marco's ship or Drummer cry on her ship. Let's get past the emotions and to the battle scenes please!

I don’t mind slow parts but goddamn how many times do we have to be reminded that Naomi, Marco, and Filip have a fricked up family situation
Amos said more in his tequila line than those three have in 4 episodes

I'm not sure they've actually deviated yet, they just haven't given the stats like the book may have. When the asteroids first hit, the news estimate was pretty low. A few episodes later the acting SG says "millions" but that could be a LOT of millions.
Amos just had that discussion with the Baltimore guy that they better get off Earth pronto. That's implying it's bad and getting worse, likely the after effects of the asteroid killing the planet.
They really haven't focused on how bad Earth is from a macro level. We just get somber moods on Luna, Belters kind of discussing they are going to be without a lot of resources soon, and a very narrow viewpoint from Amos walking around.

A bit late in the game to recast a main character.
I liked Naomi when it was her and Amos, and she was the feisty, brash talkin' mechanic.
Her and Holden hooking up was weak. These 2 have no chemistry. Fine for a fling, but I don't see any great bond between the 2. ( Amos and Peaches is a better story, even if she's just another damsel in distress for him )
Then the whole Philip arc is just hollow to me. It's uninteresting, and dragging it out doesn't help matters any.

That episode was such garbage. Nothing happened at all.
It is also funny how they are making the asteroids so detrimental, yet they only killed a few million. 58 million people die in the world each year now and that is on a near 8 billion population.
The Expanse's Earth has roughly 30 billion people. They should of claimed at least 100 million dead or go with the books. Unless Philly had been abandoned for some reason, it should be over the population of NYC in today numbers. That asteroid should have killed well over 10 million, however the tsunami asteroid should have done the most damage. Every coastal city seems to have sea walls since global warming needs to be scary. With every coastal city like New Orleans, the wave would have been killer.
Oh well, the long wait until next week for hopefully something good.
It was nice of them to include the loss of taste and smell for the Covid survivors

Yeah, New Orleans doesn't exist any more in the Expanse.
Nashville is probably a coastal city.

That is true. Trying to figure out how Florida is missing, but NYC is not. NYC is not much over current sea level at 33 feet, where FL is as high as 400 ft.
Got to push that narrative though.

Yeah, bye bye NOLA, assuming it was still there in the 1st place.
Maybe there's been such a strain on the system, communications and all, that news hasn't gotten around to just how bad things are. It's like mentioned above, how Amos knows, or strongly suspects, that things are gonna go sideways real soon, and the rest of the world is just still in stunned shock and oblivion.

Apparently they built a giant wall. You can see it whenever they show the UN HQ I think. I guess they gave up on Florida

There was a scene earlier in the show where they kinda zoomed in on the sea wall around New York. It looked like there were about 5 or 6 stories of those buildings under the sea wall.
Sea would have to rise about 70-80 feet to make that happen.

I’m rewatching Rome right now (HBO)
Vorenus returns home from the wars, to wife he hasn’t seen in seven years, and it’s awkward for both of them, they really don’t know each other.
Which is perfect, because the actors don’t know each other, and they really don’t make sense as a couple, either on screen, or in real life. So in many ways it’s easy to portray as actors.
They turned a weakness into a strength.
It’s the opposite of the Expanse if you will.

Episode 9 “Winnipesaukee” is out.

Not sure I got what Naomi was doing there at the end. Better episode though. Really wanna see Drummer go to town on that Marcos toadie.

Peaches kills a bunch of guys with her bare hands. One armed guy (?) says he’s gonna talk nicer to her from now on.

Now this episode was great, still pissed they wasted four or five episodes on Naomi’s feelings.
