Anybody seen it? I enjoyed it

I’m fascinated by post war Russia and even though this is satire it’s great. Really funny too

I liked it but was hoping it would be a bit funnier. Really great cast. Jason Isaacs stood out.

One of my favorite movies of the last few years

I liked it but as a big fan of Armando Iannucci I was hoping it would be funnier. It was better on a second watch after my pre-conceived ideas were over with. It surprised me how true to history it stayed. It was nice to see Michael Palin in a movie though his role isn't much. Buscemi is surprisingly great as Kruschev. And Isaacs was awesome as Zhukov. It was cool that they didn't bother with Russian accents at all.
It was banned in Russia so that's another plus for it.

I watched it but they made Stalin out to be a total joke but I loved how they portrayed Lavrentiy Beria because Beria was the biggest piece is crap in all of Comrade Stalin’s politburo. Beria would systematically rape and torture women and young girls and I’m so glad they finally killed Beria when Stalin died. It was a good movie but it was very disrespectful to Comrade Stalin. You american pukes can disrespect Stalin all you want but that man got things done and he took a nation of peasants and turned them into a world super power very quickly plus beat Germany for the most part in WW2. I know americans love political gridlock and government lies, and arguing about everything for 8 years. Well I like a guy that gets things done and Stalin fricken got things done promptly.

Is someone seriously arguing in favor of Stalin's political administration in the year of our Lord 2019? Well, that's certainly a take.
I loved the movie. It's funny, but it's really masking the horror of what is going on. Kruschev going back to his wife and going over what jokes worked and what didn't is funny at first glance, but then you realize he's doing it so he doesn't get shot in the head. There's the specter of death everywhere (and Beria if anything was even more horrible in real life... I'm a big fan of any movie that ends with Beria weeping and begging before getting shot in the head).
The great thing is, while the timeline is compressed and there's lots of artistic liberties involved, it's all based on fact. Stalin was left to lie in his own piss all night because the guards were too afraid to enter the room. They didn't have any competent doctors because they had murdered them all in the Doctor's Conspiracy. The opening scene is a real incident. Beria really did rape multitudes of young girls, and sent them home to their families with a flower. And again, Beria really did die crying and begging for his life before an army officer shot him at point blank range and then set his body on fire. Which is more than he deserved.

Funniest movie I’ve seen in quite some time. One of those movies that gets even more laughs with subsequent viewings.

OK I had to scratch an itch and watch this one for the third time.
Absolutely, it's gone from slightly disappointing to very good to facking great. Complicated plot with lots of subtleties and some odd accent changes, so it takes multiple watches to really fully grasp. Armando Iannucci's stuff always seems to be this way. From The Thick of it to In the Loop to Veep. The Death of Stalin is MUCH more serious than any of the previous ones. There is a bonus on the DVD in which Iannucci says that given the millions of Russian deaths he did not want to do this as a straight comedy. More of a tragedy that is also a comedy. And it really is brilliant as that. Both scathingly funny and brutal as hell at the core.

It’s a disgrace this movie wasn’t nominated for Best Picture. I think it’s one of the best movies of this decade. Absolute must watch.

Were you also mad how they portrayed Hitler in Inglourious Basterds? Stalin is one of the people in history that deserves no respect whatsoever.

Red Army Soldier #1: Should we investigate?
Red Army Soldier #2: Should you shut the frick up before you get us both killed?

Ask the Ukrainians how well Stalin got things done. He starved multiple millions to death. Or the Russian POW's who were liberated from Hitler's death camp and promptly declared traitors and sent to gulags in frozen Siberia. etc etc etc

This is a weird world we live in where people are trying to defend mass murdering scum like Stalin. Will Mao or Pol Pot be the next one to be rehabilitated?
As for the movie I thought it was pretty darn funny. It covered some extremely dark material but sometimes a comedy is the best way to do that.

I agree. I loved it the first time I saw it, without knowing about the director or anything. Loved it more after rewatching several times
