It's a shame she's as far down the line as she is for the Crown. She's probably better fit then any of her brothers to wear it at this point.
Probably. The Queen is sticking around till she dies because she knows Charles will be a horrible King. He will probably think he is fantastic and not understand why no one likes him.
Agreed with whoever said Charles should pass it on down to William and Kate as quickly as possible. They are loved. Charles will set the monarchy back 50 years.

Both statements are true.

While Anne had her marriage issue with Mark Phillips, she's the most well-adjusted of the bunch (looking back from now to then). She's a fairly accomplished woman, has been in a pretty stable second marriage since the early 90s, and is well respected.

I’ll defer to your judgement.

I feel they made this version of Thatcher too old and frail, at least for the beginning of the season. But the voice is pretty spot on.
Any of y’all watched The Iron Lady? It’s a pretty damn good movie and Meryl Streep’s performance as Maggie is probably impossible to top.

From what I've seen, Anderson nailed Thatcher's real voice.
I disagree, and I'm surprised to hear so many people saying this.
To be clear, I think Gillian Anderson's acting has been excellent in this role.
However, her Thatcher voice is way off key for me, specifically in both how husky and labored she's making it sound. She makes MT sound like a 3 pack a day smoker who has Covid. Go back and look at videos of Thatcher - she doesn't sound that raspy or labored, definitely not to the degree of Anderson's portrayal of her.
Also, Anderson almost makes her sound like she had a stammer early on in the season. The parlor game during the Balmoral test episode where Thatcher is struggling to get the words out like she was King George VI (then the Duke of York) in The King's Speech was painful to watch.

After this season I think you have more empathy for Margaret and Anne as they seem like they actually have feelings and a semblance of humanity, and Good God Charles and Camilla look awful.
I agree with all of this. I think this show isn't doing Charles any favors. People in England were starting to soften to him a bit, and this is just going to remind them of why they hate him.
Was literally just telling my wife this last night when we were watching.
IRL Charles has enjoyed somewhat of a rehabilitation of his image over the last decade or so, but the drudging up and rehashing of his affair and treatment of Diana as well as the general whinging, weak, narcissistic manner in which he is portrayed in S4 can't be doing him any favors in terms of current public sentiment.

He comes off as a horror of a human being in S 4. Not at all the same as S2 and S3 - there he may be physically and emotionally weak but he’s human and pitiable.

They really made that character a bafoon
I don't think so. They made her cold-hearted and "uncaring, confrontational, and socially divisive" but they didn't call her the Iron Lady for nothing. Thatcher was despised by the liberal British media just as Reagan was despised here. But both were principled leaders who did what was right even if it wasn't politically expedient. I thought QEII came out looking worse in their personal exchanges even if that was not the intent.

On a side note, I've seen some folks elsewhere mention that weren't sure how accurate Gillian Anderson's Thatcher impersonation was.
It was just an amped up version of the real Thatcher. Gillian Anderson nailed the reserved nature and pulled back expressions.
But she was slightly overkill with how the speech patterns worked.
Regardless, it was a much better attempt than Merle Streep’s performance

That's not why (although you are correct about Charles). She is not going to abdicate. In her mind, you serve until death. Period.

Margaret still came off as a snob, but she was a lot more both sympathetic and empathetic in Season 4. Both she and Anne saw the writing on the wall with Charles and Diana, and tried to stop the marriage at first, then tried to talk some sense into Charles. Margaret’s pleading with her sister to give her more work, only to be demoted from senior royal status, was heartbreaking.

She also discovered the hidden royal relatives. That episode was really upsetting to me. That they wrote those poor people off as dead in their Royal books but had them institutionalized and left as forgotten. And those poor sisters, even with their limited mental capacities, knew they were Royal blood.
And then she realizes that the Bowes-Lyon sisters didn't have bloodlines that would have showed defective genetics directly associated with the Queen so that really.....what they did wasn't even necessary.
Although...even after she made that discovery...still no one from the Royal family went to visit them.
To me...that episode displayed just how horrific that family can really be.
As for Charles....what a horrible person in general. And he eventually ends up getting what he always wanted (marriage to Camilla) while we all know Diana's fate. At least poor Diana seemed to have found some true happiness and love before her life was cut short.

At least William seems well-adjusted and a worthy successor. Hopefully Charles's reign doesn't last too long.

Finished the season. Another great one.
The one thing I noticed here more than other seasons was the queen thinks she is doing what is right for her country. It’s her duty. She will sacrifice anything and anyone for her duty. I know she showed that on other seasons but this one was ruthless.
And Charles is a terrible person. Product of his upbringing no doubt.
