True. And a lot of that probably has to do with having a parent that was an "outsider" and how that all went down.

Yes, William was 15 by the time Diana died. There were enough years that she had a tremendous impact on his behaviors and attitudes. In photos of William with his kids, the children seem to smile and be playful with him, something William never got from Charles. He and Kate appear to actually love each other, as well.

When you see Season 4 of The Crown, Harry and Meghan's desire to go their own way makes a bit more sense. No amount of money and titles would make having the Windsor's as family worth it.

They really made that character a bafoon. She showed up. Girl power. Didn't fit in at camp. Child was a dope got lost in car race. Drove economy down the shitter. Cried with queen. And then bye bye Maggie.

It seems so weird to me that they did so little on the IRA. They bombed her hotel.

It’s so weird to me how glossed over the Irish independence and terrorism gets everywhere. I guess it’s just so damn complicated.

As soon as you go to hug your mother in law or grandmother in law and she pushes you away, it's time to make your own life.

It's funny that throughout the history of this lineage/British royalty, the strongest women were not the first born.

Elizabeth I being the most notable, then Margaret, then Anne.

Didn't William's true love say a big nope to being part of the royal family? The blonde that was a long time family friend he was with before Kate?

They failed with Thatcher.

Gillian Anderson's portrayal of her was cartoonish and distracting.

I thought the Mountbatten assassination would get a little more time.

re: The Crown Season 4 Thread
You have to keep in mind this is a netflix series that is trying to interweave facts from the different eras while incorporating the personal lives, a behind the scenes look at the royals which is kept so private/personal to begin with that no one can look inside it and get the real truth.

You also have to keep in mind how old elizabeth is and go back in time to how she was brought up

Not a doubt in my mind that the hands off approach to parenting is one reason all those kids seem out of touch with the world they grew up in, they were isolated from those times and they were some pretty volatile times during their formative years

It's long past time for the queen to turn it over to someone new and they should bypass Charles at this point
Once it gets to William I think you might finally see some real meaningful change to the royal family that is long overdue

Nah. Many of the sovereigns before her believed it was their position until death. She's still of sound mind and sound body. Literally no good reason for her to relinquish it at this point.

Liz's mom lived to be 101. Her aunt lived to be 102.

She has another seven or eight years in her.

Charles will take the throne at around 80.

William will take over in his 50's.

Phillip is about to hit 100. We'll have to see what his passing does to Liz. Sometimes losing a spouse accelerates your decline.

Princess Margaret is my favorite. Everybody else is cold hearted.

How different would her life had been if she'd been allowed to marry Peter Townsend?

the big thing about the casting in my mind is how totally gormless Charles, Andrew, and Edward look...
