They are not folks I’d like to hang with for sure. Almost feel sorry for them. Bunch of sad people.

I’m halfway through the season now and I have to tell you that season 4 is doing incredible damage to Prince Charles and the royal family’s brand as a whole.
And it’s wholly deserved. Diana had the body of a woman but she still had the mind of a child and the Queen failed both Charles and Diana approving the marriage too quickly.
The line that really stood out to me is when Queen Elizabeth was talking about Diana wanting to bring baby William for the Australian tour and compared that with how she and Phillip left Charles and Anne at home for five months and Princess Margret commented, “Don’t you think that had any consequences?” and Elizabeth’s answer was no, the tour was a huge success. But that’s not what Margret meant. Elizabeth didn’t consider what effect going five months without their parents had on them.
No wonder Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward are stunted as hell as they never got hands on parenting full of love and adoration. Phillip was stern and distant and the Queen was too aloof and dry.
The royal family is no place to raise a child.

I love how the show had Margaret pleading for them to call the marriage off because she saw Charles and Diana as a piss poor match and knew what would happen. If it hadn't have been for his family's Machiavellian machinations in season three, Charles could have married Camilla when he wanted and all of this shite would have been avoided. That being said, Charles was an absolute piece of shite to Diana and never seemed to have had any intention of making the marriage work.

Princess Margaret is my favorite. Everybody else is cold hearted.

Well there's that.
But then William would not exist today and there is a lot to like about him, especially as a potential King. He's more popular than Charles by far and just less popular than the Queen. He has a stable marriage that by all appearances has mutual love and respect in it with a woman that is nothing like Diana or Camilla, he refuses to let his son know that he will inherit the throne in the future and wants to raise him like a normal child, and he's boring but just interesting enough, approachable and yet regal, stable and fun.
If the British monarchy wants to survive, it's imperative that Charles' reign is as short as it possibly can be and William's reign as long as it can be.
Depending on the accuracy of Season 4, I really wonder how William and Harry feel watching their parents relationship play out like this.

Everything you say is true. Having just finished up season four, I can honestly say that this season did Charles's reputation no favors. It absolutely obliterated him and made the family look like aloof shitheads who were perfectly happy to see Diana and Charles collapse further and further into misery simply because it would damage the crown's reputation if they did otherwise.

This might be the most well cast docu series in history.

I am really enjoying this show. I apologize if this triggers anybody but the voice the actress playing Thatcher uses is bloody awful. It's really takes me out of it bad.

The score for this show has been awesome
I totally agree. It is the deep brass notes that have hit a chord with me.

Edward is probably the least messed up out of the four (and the only one whose marriage hasn't collapsed).

From what I've seen, Anderson nailed Thatcher's real voice.

Just watched Ep. 4 and laughed at how the Queen and Andrew's lunch foreshadowed the shitshow Andrew's life has become. Does anyone know which young actress he was referring to? I'm sure I could Google it but am too lazy.

On a side note, I've seen some folks elsewhere mention that weren't sure how accurate Gillian Anderson's Thatcher impersonation was.
Her voice work is INSANELY accurate.
From what I've read, British people (who were alive at the time) say her impersonation is very accurate. I think it's a lot more American writers who only saw briefs clips of her here and there on the news that think the opposite.

I cannot believe how much I like the show. This is not something I would normally like but,man it's awesome. So well written, acted and produced.
Yes season 4 is shining the light on how terrible these people are to each other.
I feel so bad for Diana.

I dont really know if its historically accurate or not. It just kinda makes what she saying difficult to understand for a Netflix audience like myself that really doesn't know the difference anyway.

I imagine she saw herself in that coupling. Post-Townsend, still in love with him, but marrying Antony (who had no business getting married).

I think Helena Bonham Carter is killing it as Margaret.

Margaret is the only one who ever really attempted to try to grab some happiness for herself. And they beat her down until she didn't have it in her to protest anymore.
Camilla would never have been allowed to marry Charles in 1982. Diana was actually examined by a gynecologist who pronounced her a virgin before her marriage to Charles. Camilla was not and was not a proper bride for him, even though she was obviously the love of his life and the only one who understood him at all. It's only since the lives of most of the Queen's children have pretty much fallen apart publicly that divorce has been allowed. Edward is the only one that seems all right and that's probably because he was so far down the line to the throne. Charles would have been required to give up his title to marry Camilla in 1982. But what an arse he seems to be as is most of the family. Margaret is an arse as well, but at least she seems to prefer telling the truth.

You must have never heard Thatcher or Barbara Walters imitating her. The actress pretty much nailed it. I think they've nailed her personality as well.

It's Koo Stark and The Awakening of Emily. Very foreshadowing. It was a big deal back then. I've always loved watching the Royals and their problems and remember this stuff from back then.
