Saw this on Max and decided to watch it. I used to watch it all the time with my dad when I was a kid

Great memories, but the Blob seems like the most avoidable monster, unless you trap yourself.

Still love the movie

classic old school creature-feature from my youth that's even better for having Steve McQueen in it

true, even though mcqueen looks like he's 40 but he's playing a high schooler. Have y'all ever seen the 80s remake? It's actually world's better in my opinion though both are incredible.

My son (6) and I have watched a lot of those old arse horror movies that are rated PG and not really 'scary." I was trying to think of another one we can watch because he always asks me, and I never even thought about The Blob. May have to crank that one up this weekend. Is it available for streaming anywhere?

We've watched:

The Thing From Another World (1951)
The Mummy (1959)
The Invisible Man (1933)
The Mummy (1932)
The Lost World (1960)
Them! (1954)
War of the Worlds (1953)
Rear Window (1954)
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966)

"The Day the Earth Stood Still" is a classic.

"Creature From the Black Lagoon"

"Invasion of the Body Snatchers"

Plus a bunch of comedy/sci-fi with Abbott & Costello meeting Dracula, the Mummy, Frankenstein, etc.

Throw in some more Hammer Horror like The Gorgon. I loved Cat People as well. There are so many from that era that are all atmosphere and story. You’ll love em. Also have to shout out The Tingler and 13 ghosts from the great William Castle. And if want a fun film that features him, check out Matinee starring John Goodman.

I used to LOVE that movie back in the day.

I did watch parts of it a year or two ago and it didn't hold up well for me. But always loved the ending with the bomb and all that. That was cool.

I agree. It’s not as good as I remember but still neat seeing John Goodman as William Castle.

The Blog (1958) is on HBO Max.

The Crawling Eye was one that scared the crap out of me as a kid.

Update: we watched it today and he liked it a lot.

He did say it sort of creeped him out a little, which surprised me since he’s seen stuff way creepier than The Blob. But he definitely liked it and said it didn’t scare him really. So I’m sure we’ll watch it again soon.

Look up Munster Go Home.
Obviously a movie with The Munsters. First movie I ever saw at a drive-in back in mid 60’s.

Never saw the 1958 original but the 1988 remake is fantastic.

My dad rented it when I was probably about 9 or 10 and needless to say it scared the shite out of me.

Very gruesome and holds absolutely no punches, the situation feels more realistic too, which makes it extra terrifying.

Loved it! A true classic! The 80's remake was filmed in a small town about 10 miles from my home.
