SAG-AFTRA Reaches Tentative Agreement With Studios, Ending Actors Strike

After a grueling 118 days on strike, SAG-AFTRA has officially reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract with studios, a move that is heralding the end of the 2023 actors’ strike.

The SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical Committee approved the agreement in a unanimous vote on Wednesday, SAG-AFTRA announced. The strike will end at 12:01 am Thursday. On Friday, the deal will go to the union’s national board on Friday for approval.

I doubt more than 5% of Americans actually knew there was a strike on.

damn, whatever was I going to do without all their great content?

They should have held out longer. How's a decade sound?

Exactly …. And it was tough on the film industry that didn’t work for half the year. Including many people in Louisiana.

I can’t imagine cheering against the livelihood of people on a board that is about their industry …. Including people in their state. But go for it losers.

Some here can’t fathom the idea of people wanting to not get fricked over by the studios via AI or shite pay. Majority of actors aren’t rich or anywhere close to it

I wish I could have gone on strike 20 years ago when I was freezing my arse off in South Korea fixing F/a-18 aircraft.

They've been acting the whole time. Acting like they're abused.

They wanted royalties every time anyone streamed anything they were in.

That was fricking stupid, and would have ended all streaming services. . .costing actors work/jobs.

It was what the Writer's Guild had to cave on, to get a deal.

Actors didn't want to compromise, but I am guessing they didn't get that. . .because Netflix isn't filing for bankruptcy.

They knew studios were going to try to force actors to do full body scans and then claim they could use those scans in perpetuity for whatever projects they wanted w/o ever paying said actors again?

Yeah ok sure.

In other unrelated news

Netflix will be upping their premium memberships to the user friendly monthly price of 49.99

Their ad based memberships for low income households will be 24.99 and Netflix will accept EBT as a payment option

With this minimal update in pricing Netflix will continue to be able to create new quality rich content for their subscribers

I heard the Fran Drescher documentary should be dropping early 2024

Sounds like what the studios said when actors wanted royalties for television rights. They made it work, and somehow those studios kept making huge profits.
