1.I’ve seen neither. Likely won’t either,as I don’t sub to either service.

2. There are things called clips & reviews. Multiple different people on different channels… I can get the gist of it, especially things Tolkien related. I’m less concerned with GRR Martins work. He can do as he wishes, but I’m hearing mostly favorable things about HotD.

Why do you even care what I think?

Why do you post in a thread about shows you don’t watch?

It’s incredible how all these “non-woke” critical review clickbait YouTube channels all have amazing sources high up in Amazon, Disney, Marvel, and Lucasfilm.

You honestly don't think people don't reach out to these bigger channels to get out their displeasure with the direction of their studios??

I’ve read The Hobbit, LOTR, The Silmarillion and other Tolkien works multiple times. Own the physical copies of the extended DVD trilogy set, books, attended panels on the languages of Tolkien … I know a fair amount of the writings & of the man himself. No expert, but absolutely am a fan.

I know this stuff. RoP isn’t Tolkien.

Amazon had every opportunity to do right by the source material and instead chose to go woke.

I think they might reach out to anyone with even a shred of credibility first. I can't find this sourced even in the garbage nerd clickbait sites that usually eat this crap up.

But generally, no. These guys are, and continually be revealed to be, full of shite.

I've tried to take it for what it is.

As a huge Tolkien book nerd I was first excited as a huge 1st and 2nd Age fan, especially Numenor stuff. However, the whole timeline cruch and changes such as Galadriel jumping ship, have made it hard to fairly evaluate the show for what it is versus what I know it could have been, if closer to the source material.

It’s so bad they’re hiding the new ep releases.

It reports have been correct on viewers then releasing it early here it will actually be later and even prime time in countries that are actually seeing higher numbers of viewers. Also it avoid trying to hit prime time hours here as it seems many folks, including prime members are not wanting to watch it over other shows or enjoy their Friday night a better way.

To be honest I would not watch in a prime time slot. I will work on the computer and probably stream at the same time.

Releasing at midnight is normal.

Releasing at midnight so it’s available On a Friday when people go out is dumb.

Example of a “credible” source that isn’t part of the hive-mind machine?

Can you name a single source that you would deem credible that would also criticize diversity for the sake of diversity?

Thursday night at 6 eastern is the best time besides Sunday night.

The Grand Tour is released at Midnight GMT and it's the best time for a new episode to drop.

Why Amazon doesn't do this is mind-boggling.

I guess They don’t want to compete with Thursday night football..

Release it right after the game ends a drop an ad.

It works.

No one who claims this show is in keeping with Tolkien's works has any credibility whatsoever.

How is that relevant to who has credible sources?

Having said that, I tend to shy away from watching any sci-fi / fantasy shows for the first couple of seasons because most networks bail on the shows and I don't want to get invested in a show headed for cancelation.

A bit different in this case if the show it really going forward with 5 seasons but I wonder if that number is true. If the leaked viewer numbers are true, this show will not make it 5 seasons.

I'm enjoying the show. It could be better, it could be far worse.

I don't think you have to worry about it being cancelled. From what I've read on the subject, it's Jeff Bezo's personal baby. He outbid everyone else by a good margin to get the rights in a quick manner (didn't leave room for counters etc), and was directly involved in that (not some Prime Video CEO, or some other underling). He is a Tolkien fan, and he wanted this specific opportunity to make something within the IP. He's paid a buttload of money to the Estate, while still giving them a lot of rights to approve or reject things. He has the money to burn, and it sounds like he's doing this "because I can", and not to turn a profit.

Even good shows take time to build an audience. I didn't start Game of Thrones until it was going into the 4th season, I'd heard about it but didn't have HBO. I got the season DVDs at the library and binged to catch up, and then decided to get HBO to watch afterwards.

Not that it matters to anyone else, but my son and I are enjoying RoP more than HoD. I know it comes with the territory, but the uncle-daughter action was just sleazy. I get it's integral to the story (I guess), but incest and suggested pedophilia ain't high on my list of things to view. I haven't felt like needing a shower to wash off the slime, after watching Rings of Power.
