Was wondering what stupid fricking small thing you’d use as an excuse to not see it so you can instead just parrot horseshite from whatever rage influencer you are currently mainlining.
Superman: The Movie: Lush and vibrant Krypton turned into an ice planet. Time travel abused to fix plot.
Superman II: Sex with Lois and then erased from her memory without her consent.
Superman Returns: Lois has a secret Super-Son.
Man of Steel: Pa Kent reinforces his "let them die" advice by committing suicide in front of his family.
But those films (mostly due to the men portraying Superman) rose above those sins and gave us a ton of entertainment. Hell, for me, the Pa Kent in Man of Steel was the biggest mortal sin in the history of Superman, but there's no bigger fan of Henry Cavill than I.
Invaders Jor-el and Lara are the biggest misstep in this current film. But I haven't enjoyed a Superman movie this much since Christopher Reeve in I and II.
And yeah, the troll is going to hang his hat on the absolute worst moment of this movie and hold it up as an example of his prescience and how he was right to pollute every Superman thread with his "Joe fricktard Explains Hollywood" videos.

I vaguely remember there being some storyline or reboot in the comics where Jor-El wasn't a heroic scientist who did everything he could to save his only child..that he was kind of a bad guy. I don't think it's a mortal sin to give him a bad view of humanity. It reinforces Superman's humanity and the impact the Kents had on him. Or it isn't as bad of a sin as giving Superman an illegitimate son with Lois or have him murdering people.

Jor-El was essentially a villain in the first 5 seasons of Smallville.

quote:It's just been a downhill slope for Krypton since the '78 movie. The Silver Age Krypton was a place of awesome sci-fi and wonder. Story after story, decades of building this amazing culture with weird animals and a history that went back to the first colonists of Krypton. Then in '78 the films began to depict it as cold and lifeless, diminishing the horror of the loss of that culture. After the Bronze Age it became worse with Byrne's sexless Krypton which went on to be the status quo. It makes the Krypton of Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited stand out as such a wonderful throwback. There was a time when an evil Jor-El would seem out of the question, but now it's sort of, "Well, Krypton sucked anyway."

Which fits, because comic book superheroes have been stopping these tiny wars in comics for almost a century now.

This is my theory. Either alters or related. They back each other up way too often.

Ehh they’re distinct, nobody wants Palestinians for a reason over there. And in the movie they’re clearly different skin tones from what I recall

2nd weekend drop on par with TDK is pretty damn good

Not even a little bit clear. The thinking that it is... is just stupid.

It's getting good WOM, especially the debunking of its alleged "wokeness"

Sure enough, #Superman AGAIN saw its SUN gross finish ABOVE studio estimates! $18.9M which was -18% vs SAT and -40% vs last SUN. WB est was $17.5M/-25%/-44%. This puts 2nd wknd #boxoffice at $58.45M and drop at 53% - almost as good as Dark Knight's 52.5%! $236.2M cume. Show more
Can't remember the last movie that I saw twice in the theater. This was much better on the 2nd viewing (no longer waiting for the dire predictions to come true).

Very impressive hold for Superman, in genuinely surprised considering other comic book movies as of late. The international market seems to be thin for all movies so it's not specific up Superman.
I think DC at this point calls this a success

I saw it again this weekend and caught so many more things the second time. Musical cues, easter eggs...and i even liked the plot pacing better. it's impressive what Gunn pulled off, all things considered.
