I just got home from seeing it in IMAX

GREAT MOVIE, best Superhero movie I've seen in a long time.

I didn't feel like it was political at all; that never registered at all for me.

Two thumbs up!

There was nothing political in the movie. That entire thing was orchestrated by Variety who’s owned by Penske who has a long partnership with Disney. It was just dirty play from a competitor.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Madking is just an alter for Kaiju to back up his shitty points. Either that or a troll dude make zero points and just hurls insults like a child.

Kaiju on the other hand never seems to have much of original thought because half the time he just regurgitates shite he heard from dudes on YouTube

Stupidity and irony. What a small set of tools you have at your disposal. It’s no wonder your arguments are always so weak.

I still can't figure out what you're referencing. The superman is political conversation started with the James Gunn interview in the LA Times. That was then aggregated and blown up by the idiot YouTube community. It's why Kaiju is still saying dumb things, sight unseen, in this thread.

I know Variety's review of Heads of State had a line suggesting Superman was bad, but it had nothing to do with anything political.

They ran a story with Dean Cain's dumb quote. Was that the orchestrated sabotage?

Happened at the premier, dude from variety with the voice like Harry Firestein kept badgering Gunn and Fillion about the “Woke” Superman controversy that didn’t exist. When they refused to play into it he started with the “immigrant” MAGA backlash. People like Cain, Piers Morgan and others picked up on it and ran false headlines but guests on Morgan’s show quashed it and once the footage came out it went away. But it was done with intent and on purpose, luckily it failed.

That could be funny. Actor is good, Sampaio is hot and did a good job as Teshmacher. Jimmy was pretty callous though, the girls who were with us didn’t like him. This would obviously be geared towards younger women, I wonder if it would land.

I'm in no way saying your wrong about variety doing this with intent--I'd have no idea--but the LA Times interview and all the angry reactions to it online existed before the premiere. So that red carpet dude asking questions would have been basing his questions on the (definitely dumb, as most here have already agreed) reactions to that Times piece.

That doesn't mean Variety can't be opportunistic. I do think it curious that Variety didn't do anything to besmirch the film in print, where the trade has more power and influence. The annoying red carpet guy that virtually everyone already dislikes may not be the most effective weapon.

Do you mean the interview with the “immigrant” comment? Pretty sure that was a day or two before the premier right? The next day when he was asked again he dodged the question. In the fan community that was seen as WB telling him to cut it out and the fans backed off until the BS hit the airwaves with Cain and Morgan but then that was calmed down as well. People just weren’t falling for it, early screenings had leaked that it wasn’t political so it did bubble up like you said but it blew over pretty quickly.

I’ll disagree a little bit. Gunn said it was and the two forces were clear to me as Palestine/Israel stand-ins

Now, was it a huge deal to me? No because they didn’t really preach at you. It’s done in a lighthearted way with fun and spectacle. I can accept some level of that in the movies about characters I love because it’s a bigger story than that. It’s Hollywood after all, they’re going to message some.

Even Christopher Nolan did some it in TDK/TDKR about the police state and then occupy Wall Street / tale of two cities

While a stupid sense of humor and not funny, he explains this on a new podcast

It was when twitter didn’t have a RT feature and you had to type “RT @random person” and make a POST from your account to indicate you were retweeting something THEY posted

He came up with off the wall shite and posted “RT @childhood friend crazy shite” on his twitter to make it look like his friends had posted those things

Depicting political themes is not an endorsement of any political ideology. It's storytelling. I'll never understand how defensive people get when they see the real world on film.

On the flip side, when the storytelling is not representative of the real world, people can't leave it in fantasy. They have to pull meaning and accuse the creators of hidden agendas.

It's just movies folks.

Well that's not true. Not sure how you can say that if you watched the movie. It's clear as day that the war is Israel/Palestine with Superman getting in trouble for backing the side opposite the US. I enjoyed the movie, but that wasn't exactly hard to see at all.

Maybe...but Gunn started working on this back in 2022, when it was first announced he was taking over DC. That was well before October 7th. Gunn has also said it's not about Israel v Palestine.

Even so, we’ve had Muslim conflict for 25 years. The Palestine issue has also been a deal for way longer than just October 7th

Have yall talked about how it had I think the biggest Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday dailies of the year? And that’s even against 1 billion movies like Minecraft and LILO. I’m glad it’s doing well domestically

I don't blame anyone who thinks this is about Israel v Palestine. I get it. I'm just saying that Gunn himself has said its not about that.
