The cast is really what's got me interested. Fillion, usually nails it, and despite his bowl cut, everyone says he's spot on for his role.

If only there was a scene where he and Alan Tudyk share the screen...

“What we always hoped to achieve with Superman was winning back the trust of our DC fans and indeed they have enthusiastically embraced our first entry in an exciting new theatrical universe,” said Warners global distribution president Jeff Goldstein. Added Zaslav separately, “Superman is just the first step. Over the next year alone, DC Studios will introduce the films Supergirl and Clayface in theaters and the series Lanterns on HBO Max, all part of a bold ten-year plan. The DC vision is clear, the momentum is real, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.”

While also completely changing his origin story that most would believe is in a negative way

Ehh... to be fair, Jor-El has been portrayed as a bit more Zod like in his feelings towards Earth in the more recent comic runs.

Yeah, I’m not a comic guy. I’ll take your word for it. But they haven’t been portrayed like this in a live action movie. Maybe a lot of people are making more of a deal with it than should be. I’m fine with it. Not only am I fine with it, I think it enhances the Superman character and makes him more interesting. But I understand a lot of traditionalist with it.

Can’t understand how they can keep making dumb Jurassic Park movies and people still eat it up. I will never understand it.

People seriously underestimate how many people think dinosaurs are cooler than superheroes.

Hell they did this with Smallville too.

I thought the one in Smallville was an AI pretending to be Jor-El to mislead Clark?

Edit- I misremembered, the AI was pure knowledge and logic at first. It was a dickhead to Clark but gradually began to accept his family and friends. It then turned back into a dick when Clark sacrificed himself until Kara showed up and infused actual footage from Jor-El with it then it became a true representation of Jor-El. But Jor-El was never an evil shite like the one in Gunn’s movie.

And that’s really the overall view I have. Good vibes and a lot of fun. Being a Superman fan I have issues with parts of the movie but on the other hand I want Superman to endure and this movie being so enjoyable serves that greater good. Anyone who asks I’m telling them to go watch it.

Yep same for me. I’ve always been a Batman and Superman guy since I was a kid

So I’m just excited we have something DC can invest in and people are pretty much universally liking

And now there’s anticipation instead of worry heading into the next thing.

Disagree. I think Superman is doing well in spite of a contrived concerted effort to paint it as "woke."

FFS, Gunn himself described it as a political movie.

The more I think about it, the more I'm certain that Zaslav is going to step in and force Gunn and Reeves to combine their films. These Superman numbers are not good enough to justify paying for 2 separate universes. It just doesn't make sense to give Reeves 150+ million for his film and another 150+ to Gunn for his. Superman looks like it'll be lucky to break even.

Zaslav is not a creative. He's your typical corporare CEO type.

They’re just going to lower budgets. I’d be surprised if they decide to combine these so quickly since that’s exactly what killed their universe before. But it’s possible. Either way, lower budgets are coming because the foreign markets don’t care about super heroes. Marvel will have to do the same as well.

But it’s just too successful here for them to pull any plugs.

According to Deadline, Superman made $123 million in the U.S. over its opening weekend, and a further $95 million internationally for a total worldwide box office of $217 million. That makes it the third-biggest movie opening of the year, behind A Minecraft Movie and Jurassic World Rebirth — and well ahead of Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*.

It’s a new record for a solo Superman movie, just ahead of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill, which opened to $116 million in 2013.

It’s the budget. It’s huge. Plus marketing. It’ll make money though lol. It’s just too successful here

so how do we feel about Hawkgirl unilaterally taking out a foreign head of state?

not sure who exactly the “Justice Gang” is beholden / accountable to, but I feel like that was a wild move.
