Then the parent twist. I’m good with it in the context of the movie, but they should have had a scene explaining it was fake.

I think this will come later. It feel like it has to.

Maybe that will be part of the Supergirl movie.

Terrible decision doing that. The movie was fun, it’s just not a Superman movie.

UPDATE EARLY SUNDAY: Sources are telling us that Superman‘s Saturday is coming in around $37M, -34%, which is indicating a $123M opening for the James Gunn directed DC Studios film, the first in the phase “Gods and Monsters”.

These figures do not come from Warner Bros. If they hold, execs should be doing the Krypto doggie dance in the morning as it’s Warners second $100M-plus opening this year after A Minecraft Movie ($162M), the second-best opening for a Superman movie overall behind Batman v. Superman ($166M), the best opening for a Superman first franchise installment ahead of Man of Steel ($116.6M reported 3-day), and the second best opening, as we said all along, for Gunn behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($146.5M).

Looks like a $123mm opening

2 films that killed it opening weekend because word of mouth let everyone know they aren't "woke." Hollywood should take note. General audiences are desperate for entertainment that doesn't shove politics or messaging in our faces.

Just watched. I don't know how they could have made a better Superman movie. I think the criticism that the people turn on Superman too quickly is legit, but I understand that they had a lot of material to cover. They more than made up for that minor criticism. I do not agree that Ma and Pa Kent were handled poorly. They are, rightly, the true heroes, and were shown as such. I even liked the Krypto inclusion, and was sure I would hate that.

Completely agree. Especially about Ma and Pa Kent. People who hated their performance just don’t get it and are getting too caught up in that first scene with them on the phone.

Them AND Lois were essentially the heart of the movie. Clark and Pa Kent’s scene in the third act was the best scene in the movie.

For reference, Man of Steel opened $116 mil 12 years ago.

Looks like around 210 WW opening, that's not great. The OS market will be study on why this movie did pretty poorly compared to domestic.

Being generous and 2.5 multiplier gets you to 525 WW, much lower than anyone anticipated. They could definitely not lose money here with ancillary stuff though.

Still will be concerning for WB moving forward, considering it's phase 1.

For comparison Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania did 225 WW opening weekend. Granted box office numbers for comic book movies have been trending downward

I’ve been reading a little on the box office Reddit and they claim superheroes in general have been soft in Asia since about 2022

Many blaming it on Trump and them being tired of us being center of attention for euro markets

Superhero fatigue looks real, internationally. I'm not expecting any difference with fantastic four. That'll struggle internationally as well. It's gotta be concerning for the studios.

Agreed, domestic going to have to do the heavy lifting here. But I think studios need to adjust their budgets. These 200 million+ CGI fests are recipes for busts.

F4 is probably looking at similar results here if wom is good

My prediction:

125M (i think actuals will be 125) OW X 2.6 multi = 325

240 international

565 - 570 finish

Let's hope that's good enough for Zaslav

They might make sure to get an Aquaman movie out soon if anything.

Asia will eat that up
