Ryan George is great. The big issues with the movie that aren't being discussed (because almost no one in this thread saw it) is the plot point about the dog, the weak villain that's only a threat because supergirl keeps losing her powers and the fact that she ended up where she started. Except she's happy to stay on earth.
I dint know why these movies don't just pick a comic storyline and follow it.

Because the writers’ egos can’t be satisfied with that, they have to be “creative.”

They are retarded.

Also Gunn came in with total control. He didn’t have to create an Elseworlds universe.
Next year can’t come soon enough when he is out.

Make a movie “targeting Gen Z women”
2. 60% of your audience is men, Gen Z women don’t show up
3. Blame… men?
Do what?
Yeah
It amounts to a completely unfalsifiable way of looking at the world It's another contingent of just useless rage immune to reason.
If it doesn't suck people will want to see it. You put the movie in the hands of a person who hadn't earned it and doesn't know how to make a compelling story. Even when there are dozens of decent Supergirl stories to choose from.
The lack of accountability will likely be both breathtaking and completely unsurprising
The lack of accountability part is apparently just getting worse. Gunn and his boss have both decided to go to blame misogyny route.
The Gunn DC universe is cooked if that's really the way they judge the response to Supergirl internally. Also, there were bits about the Supergirl character somehow not landing with the female audience.
The latter part would allow for some helpful introspection if they took a step back and realized the character they designed wasn't appealing. Blaming misogyny is probably a cope or a purely cynical tactic to try to retain control and dismiss criticism instead of a moment to address the failures of their creative processes.

15% of women under 25 saw the movie. It’s target demographic. It’s a disaster.
Women shouldn’t be a target demographic for a superhero film. It’s young men. The Devil Wears Prada made over 220 million domestic. Crazy Rich Asians made 175 million domestic on 30 million budget. Women want fairy tales, and expensive shite, and hot guys. They don’t want to go watch a goth androgynous girl. Because they don’t identify with that and don’t want to be that.
Hollywood is colossally stupid.

With all of the metrics they have available to them they should question their own methods. No reason a bunch of assholes on a message board shows them up

The AI star wars movies coming out are better than the sequels. I'm invested in Heir to the Empire. Only 8 parts out so far but they are doing the Zahn trilogy and adding a little to it.
Why the sequels didn't include Mara Jade and the Solo twins makes no sense.

Gunn and Gillespie had creative differences over the direction of the movie, numerous sources tell The Hollywood Reporter, and the film never found its footing in the post-production process. The test scores, which are counted on a scale out of 100 points, never escaped the 60s, according to multiple insiders. Another insider said the movie’s top score was 70.
“’They were not creatively aligned’ is the polite way of describing things,” said one insider.

Filming wrapped in May 2025, and as early as the fall of that year, the studio and Gillespie knew the movie wasn’t working. After a December test screening proved to be just okay, the studio decided to take matters into its own hands and took charge of the post-production to make its own cut. Gunn also enlisted writer Jeremy Slater, who previously wrote an unmade feature based on DC superhero team The Authority, to help with the post-production process.

There is also a series focused on Mr. Terrific, played by Superman breakout Edi Gathegi, that is in active development with Allan Heinberg (The Sandman) writing the pilot.

Despite the setback, Gunn, and Safran will continue to guide the ship. It is unclear when the the duo’s contracts are up, but sources believe it is either the end of 2026 or the end of 2027.
What a disaster. Of course Gunn wanted to do the gay superhero team up of Authority and enlists its writer to change Supergirl
Get him out

And while social media users and critics are dunking on the movie’s use of a cover of the Jimmy Eat World song “The Middle,” the big needle drop in the final set piece at the February screening was a cover version of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” That song choice came from Gunn, but it ultimately was abandoned for the Jimmy Eat World cover, also a Gunn choice.
What is it with this guy and his fricking needle drops? Just let the score do its job.

I had never heard “needle drop” used in this context until the failure of Supergirl
I’m glad we have a term to mock it now so they’ll stop doing it
