Two very nice films that are seldom mentioned:

Breaking Away - literally described as a "coming of age" film, but about high school seniors

A Little Romance - 13 year old first-love adventure starring Diane Lane in her first role, with Sir Lawrence Olivier in a wacky supporting role. There is a scene of the youngsters going to a porn movie but don't know if your kid would understand and pick up on it, or just fast forward.

Also perhaps:

Little Big Man, grand adventure, but also has mildly objectionable content, and Custer being killed.

The Man Who Would Be King, also with objectionable content toplessness.

Some of the movies mentioned would be pretty rough for a sheltered 6th grader.

Good movie although too sexual for the 6th grader.
