Also went back through and watched some of the trailers again for some clues. There are definitely some shots of Robin, Dustin, Steve and Nancy in different clothes and with weapons back in the Upside Down. If that’s the case, I think everyone might be safe except for Eddie.

If Steve dies it looks like it won’t be from the demobats bites since he apparently saves Nancy then gets some new clothes and there are shots of him rescuing someone else (not Nancy) while swinging an axe. Probably wouldn’t be able to do that if he was losing that much blood. And if Nancy dies it won’t be from her encounter with Vecna from Episode 7. Maybe a different encounter with him. Steve has had some death flags over him this season but so have Nancy, Eddie and Max. But I still think it will be Eddie and someone else we’re not expecting. Characters who survive a near death encounter generally are pretty safe afterward (Max, Eleven, Hopper, Will.)

It could be Eddie and then no one else but maybe the group loses somehow and part of the Upside Down starts to take over the town or something with Vecna not being fully vanquished until the final season, which would make some sense. They probably don’t want to introduce a whole other villain after such a brilliant set up for Vecna. Either that or Vecna somehow taints Eleven or she turns evil for the final season. She’s always had a dark side. But I doubt they go that route

Jonathon is the only character that feels out of place.

I feel like they intentionally made Jonathan’s character more unlikable or difficult to feel any connection to so that they could pave the way for Steve and Nancy to get back together. I don’t mind Steve and Nancy but everyone would have to admit it is 100% fan service.

In general I thought Part I was great. Hard to rank with the other seasons because it is almost a different show, but it would be 1/2 if we had to rank. I also think breaking it into two parts is awesome. Felt that Netflix left a lot on the table by sticking to their binge watching guns in releasing previous seasons. This show is perfect for fan speculation and discussion/theories. They’ll get a lot more hype by doing it this way.

Well honestly, there was a big question with Jonathan and Nancy and just how much they had in common. It seemed like the only thing that ever really brought them together was trying to work together to solve the mysteries and defeat the Mind Flayer or save Will. Once the horror was over, they’re still left with not much in common

Jonathan has always kind of stayed the same as a character and as a person through Season 3 and now Season 4 while Steve and Nancy have grown a lot since their split. I don’t think Steve and Nancy will end up together at the end of this season but I do think it will give Nancy the push to end things with Jonathan, knowing that they only really got together because they went through some crazy shite together and not because they fit well together

That seems to be Dustin’s take as well. When he and Lucas and little sis were talking it through, they described him as a general. Steve may be right that he needs an ego check, but Dustin isn’t usually wrong. (Love Eddie’s line about, “it’s his tone, right”)

Yea, demigorgons as foot soldiers, vecna the general. I thought about that too. Vecna is clearly a huge part of the upside down but there was/is something there before he got there. I know the mind flayer “died” in the last season but either it or something else is the main entity there.

I wonder what Vecna’s endgame is. Is it just to lure El out and get his revenge? Or is it deeper than that? He want to take over Hawkins just like the Mind Flayer?

Did he ever work with the Mind Flayer or was he just chilling in the Creel house, waiting for someone to kill the Mind Flayer so he could execute his plan?

Just finished and it was great.

Few questions:

1. What do you think Will painted? They made sure to show him grab it when he was packing. It obviously has some significance.

2. I assume the upside has always existed. All the kids that were killed and Max got nosebleeds, as has the kids with powers when they use their powers. Makes me assume their powers are manifested from the upside down.
I would have thought 11 and the other kids got their powers from experiments using 001.
But where did 001 get his powers from?

And what is everyone on here’s obsession with main characters being killed off?

Good question. Maybe something to do with the clock or spiders. Maybe there really is something about that house.

Now Nancy knows the story and timeline.

Because they assume it’s the ONLY way for a story like this to have stakes. A story where we have had some traumatic shite happen but none of the main cast to get killed

If they were to be killed, then they aren’t really part of the main cast. This ridiculousness of main cast people being killed off is tiring. These kids have had their lives changed b/c of this show. They aren’t going to kill one off. That isn’t going to make the show better b/c a main character dies. If a main character dies, it’s a sacrifice to save the world, and the movie/show ends with their death. There’s still a season 5. No one of importance is really being killed off in season 4, unless the actor that plays a character has said they don’t want to be in season 5.

Told my wife after a few episodes that I think either they want Will to be gay, but more likely, that kid is gay and he can’t help come off as gay on screen b/c he’s a terrible actor.

I mean I agree with you. The show has had plenty of stakes despite none of the main cast dying. Billy dying was powerful. El lost her powers. Hopper ended up in a traumatic Russian prison.

Before that things were pretty dicey with Barb and Bob dying, the impacts of their deaths are still felt. I think someone gets knocked off in Season 5 but I think the main cast are pretty safe.

Eddie is still a goner, though

I thought I remembered that when he woke up from his coma he said that he saw the one person he didn’t want to see again in Brenner. I wonder if good old Poppa hadn’t already done some early MK ultra experiments on little boy Creel.

Yeah, ending is going to be 11 showing up after her victory just to find Mike and Will in the sack together.

11 goes mad and destroys the world.

This is why the industry kills characters... more often than for the story at least.

As great as the ending of episode 7 was, there's still a bunch of sh*t that annoyed me about this season (aside from episodes running too damn long).

For example, how in the world did the Russians escape the mall with Hopper as a prisoner? There's no way there was enough time between the explosion and the US government storming the mall.

Also, how did Enzo get Joyce's address in Califorina? Hopper wouldn't have known it, so...?

As for S4 Part 2, what are the chances that 001 winds up being 011's biological father?
