His 2017 specials were dookie. His wife is or was trying to get into the fashion industry and he had to sacrifice his comedy at that altar and “kiss the ring/drink the koolaid” for her. Same thing that Leo had to do in order to get his Oscar even though The Revenant was his worst film in 10+ years.

legit don’t understand how you can enjoy Dave’s older stuff and think S&S was underwhelming
By far the worst and most dishonest critics are the ones acting like Chappelle just became "edgy" in this last special.

Most of the reviews I've seen indicate that he ISN'T edgy in this current special, at least not compared to his previous ones. That he's lost a step on what makes him special compared to other comedians.

This,
There isn't anything edgy about a Michael Jackson pedophile joke in 2019.
Has anyone heard a Michael Jackson joke lately that was new and you didn't see the punchline coming a mile away? That shite was played out 15 years ago and I thought Dave Chappelle would know better than that.

I'd counter that the abortion and LGBT stuff are absolutely edgy, and the proof is all the SJWs melting down about him making those jokes.
It takes balls to "go against the grain" on those issues in 2019.

I agree. Or maybe I'm missing all the comedians making jokes about the kids bragging about getting a beej from MJ.

I get how you think it was played out 15 years ago, but that is just Dave's brand of comedy. He is always joking about police, drugs, gays/trans, random sexual deviancy sprinkled in there, stuff about differences in blacks/whites, commentary about social hypocrisy. I dont base my enjoyment of comediens because "edginess", nor do I think you need to be "edgy" to be funny.
The michael jackson bit was pretty telegraphed ill give you that. but the home alone part was new to me. The delivery was good enough to pull off a telegraphed premise.
im a lil biased because Dave is a top 3 all timer in my book. S&S wasn't as good as killen em softly, but it is much better set than what almost every other comics are doing.

Edgy as in offensive

Burr and Chappelle both have Michael Jackson sets and they both make me laugh my arse off.
And you know why a Michael Jackson joke is edgy in 2019? Because of the Leaving Neverland HBO series. It's not like Chappelle just came out and started telling George Bush jokes out of nowhere.

Is it possible to discuss the takeaways HERE without it automatically devolving into a political discussion?
The number of posts that specifically blame SJWs (as opposed to actually breaking down the "fors" and "againsts" talking points) are enough to make me wonder if I've accidentally clicked on the PoliBoard.

I mean, it's pretty obvious what happened with the scores. Feel free to keep your head in the sand.

Age of Spin is one of his best specials. What is not to like about that one?

Except that I already posted what they talked about, and another person even pointed out that one of the negative reviews comes from a conservative publication.
Unless you're claiming SJWs are part of the conservative movement as well these days.

Cling to the one exception, it definitely invalidates the majority.
ETA: Are you really going to sit here and act like politics isn't what is driving the reviews of this special? Really?

2 of the 5 negative reviews were seemingly politically motivated.
Just for comparison sake, Amy Schumer’s last Netflix special also only had 8 reviews, with 4 being positive and 4 being negative.
A whole difference of 1 review.
The “politics is driving negative reviews” seems to be greatly overblown to me.

I’ve seen more negative articles than I have actual negative reviews counted in RT.
Vox has 2 or 3 articles on it. People are blowing it out of proportion. Black Panther and Captain Marvel (I really liked BP and CM was fine) reviews were a blatant SJW move. This ain’t.

1 out of 5 negative reviews. The "majority" isn't really one.
The sample size is pretty small for you to make a lot of broad assumptions.

I'm going to say, when discussing it with other people on here, if you dismiss THEIR opinions as "SJW", then constantly going back to the published reviews with the same opinion sort of invalidates your own opinion.

Yes. When a band releases its fifth album, and that album is pretty similar to the two right before it, but not quite as good, do you get huffy when reviewers call it stale and tired? Probably not. But this website, politics, movies and especially the idiotic review aggregating website have combined to create a narrative that everything is political.
It isn't.
The reasons I didn't like Green Book weren't political. The reasons I didn't like vice weren't political. Sometimes people watch things and think they just aren't good.
