Tell us your favorite movie Colbert wrote?
Posted on 3/27/26 at 2:03 pm to sgallo3
It’s like asking James Carville to say something not related to his feelings concerning Trump.
Simply not possible.
Simply not possible.

who should I trust on this, some internet political hack that hates Colbert or Peter Jackson?
You mean the Peter Jackson that made the Hobbit movies?
I mean I like Peter Jackson and what he did LOTR.
But he also sullied his legacy yet.
But anyways:
quote:
When Colbert visited the New Zealand set of “The Hobbit,” Jackson arranged a trivia face-off between his guest and the film’s resident Tolkien authority Philippa Boyens, who co-wrote the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and won an Academy Award for “The Return of the King.” Colbert won.
“I have never met a bigger Tolkien geek in my life. His encyclopedic knowledge of Tolkien is spectacular, and points to a deprived childhood in some respects,” Jackson told Entertainment Weekly in 2012. That “deprived childhood” included, by Colbert’s own account, abandoning schoolwork, quitting sports and spending his teenage years absorbed in not just “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings,” but the full sweep of Tolkien’s writing. Now the man who beat the franchise’s own screenwriter at her own game is writing the next film alongside her.
I don't care how much Colbert likes or knows about LOTR. I care about his intentions, and his intentions the last decade or so is only about being a

political hack
We've seen this story before. I just would rather the money spend to make LOTR stuff be spent on things that actually will lend to the lore and history, and honor it. Colbert has shown no restraint in being a political hack. Why do you think he would suddenly do that here?
Most of you, and Iyes I'm going to lump you into a group, believe that using a brand/ip/piece of art for ANY political point, regardless of the point of the author and the ip, is perfectly fine. So why are you worried?
You shouldn't care if Colbert hacks up LOTR.

I'm sure you admitted you were wrong with Rings of Power and how they brought politics and woke into it all while saying they wouldn't.
You guys had your chance and failed. It was the most waste of money in the history of television and will always be known as one of the biggest flops in tv history.

I never said anything about rings of power :lol
There isnt even a comparison. Rings of Power was writing their own stuff not adapting Tolkiens chapters 3-8 from fellowship of the rings.
The same chick that wrote on Fellowship, The Two Towers, and Return of the Kings will be writing this screenplay from chapters from fellowship.
The hobbit trilogy may not have been awesome but it wasnt woke

After the shitty Hobbits my view of Jackson rightfully took a tumble. He was a master class director / adapter for LOTR and the hobbit was trash.

Why are you so convinced of this? Because he "loves" LOTR? Is that why?
What about Rian Johnson and his love of Star Wars? Gerwig and her love of Narnia? the Rings of Power folks who really wanted to make "their" version of Lord of the Rings? Starfleet Academy? All of the Star Wars Abominations?
He wants to make his version of some Trump takedown, guaranteed. He spent the last decade or more doing nothing more than shitting on conservatives, but now he's going to leave his politics behind? No.

Why are you so convinced of this?
Literally everything about Colbert is wrapped in partisan political hackery.
But they are confident it 100% won't be reflected in the most consequential thing he has ever written?
I have absolutely no idea where this confidence comes from, if not blind faith or naivete.
Maybe they just want to "own the chuds"

Kevin Smith's love of He-Man

LotR was a passion project.
The Hobbit trilogy (
) was a cash grab.
Everything that's come after is necrophilia.

I don't get the hate for the Hobbit films. I'm glad they were made. Could they have been better? Yes but it's not as bad as everyone says. Could have been 2 movies also.
Peter Jackson wanted them to be 2 movies. Blame the studio more than Jackson. He has no control over that.

The short version - It's not an epic saga like LOTR. It's written more like a fairy tale, a smaller story, which ends with an awoken dragon and a massive battle. There's no reason it needed to be 3 movies, other than to milk the cow.
The forced dwarf + elf love story was cringe.
Azog wasn't a book character.
Goblin Chief was lame, and the CG was just awful in the Goblin den.
Sand worms... *sigh*

I wasnt aware Rian Johnson wrote the original trilogy of Star Wars.
The writer on this wrote the original trilogy of LOTR.
You keep bringing up people that took over something they had never worked on and ruined it. Noone on your list made something the best trilogy of all time to begin with.
