Colbert wants to get on the 'frick up your childhood' wagon sooooo bad. HIs personal narrative is that he's being let go from CBS because Trump pressured them to do it, and not because he was losing them $50 mil. per year.

So I guess this is his revenge on the chuds, a little bullshite side-quest movie that really has no effect on the main series. I hear he's also using his totally inexperienced son to help him, so that will be a nice free check for the kid.

I clapped when Glorfindel vaccinated Frodo to stop the spread!

Tolkien WROTE those chapters. There's nothing to adapt.

You know that books and screenplays are two very different things, right?

What books has Colbert written?

Don’t care. He’s not Tolkien or British.

That's part of what I was pointing out above. They're two different things requiring different skills.

Obstinate as well. Helluva a list you're building.

Proudly so. I’ll give praise where warranted. LotR trilogy was the best trilogy in film. Period.

The Hobbit movies sucked.
Rings of Power - pure fetid sludge.
The animated Rohirrim movie - ridiculous.

Bakshi’s animated movie wasn’t very accurate with specifics, but stuck mostly to the story.

I’ll take that over anything post LotR.

we get it dude, you don't like the idea of it.

nothing you say is gonna change how we feel about it or convince them not to make it. you don't have to try to make the whole thread about you. you don't own LOTR.

Giving some real Gollum vibes, we didn't steal your precious.

Stop making LOTR movies. The Hobbit movies sucked and anything else is further diluting the brand.

The tweet says Phillipa Boyens is writing as well. She has to be the lead writer. She co-wrote the screenplays for the Lord of the Rings (with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh) and Hobbit trilogies.

She also co-wrote the War of the Rohirrim abomination.

Actually, not a bad comparison, because LotR is my precious. But not just mine, it is important to millions of like minded people. And yes, I don’t want them to make it, but in the real world yapping on an internet movie board isn’t gonna move the needle.

Most likely if it’s made it’s going to fail and I’ll be the one who said so, just like Rings of Power.

"You only fail when you stop trying"

People thought Game of Thrones was dead after season 8, then again after House of the D season 2.

Then along comes A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and everything is back on track.

Same with Star Wars and Andor.

Maybe this movie will be LOTR's Rogue One/Andor or AKOTSK. If they don't try we would never get to find out.

I've never been a fan of the approach of not stepping up to the plate and taking a swing.

HotD & Kot7K are proper GRRM works. Are they not?

It comes down to who is involved & what they bring to the table, experience wise.

The verdict is in.

HOTD and Kot7K bring LESS experience (writing ASOIAF) than this project.

It has Philippa Boyens that wrote the original trilogy.

You are focusing on the special guest co-writer more than the lead name. The one that wrote the trilogy is gonna be carrying the load of the work.

Philipa was a part of a team.

fricking Colbert isn’t necessary as a celebrity guest writer, no one asked for any of this .

For the very reason he’s so ultra political is enough to yeet him from this project.

And didn’t Colbert pitch this idea to PJ?

Um, it did die. At least the memory of the show was forever tarnished by that abysmal final season. To this day, people still get angry at how much D&D fricked up a terrific show.

Well, season 3 still isnt' out yet and most people don't have high hopes of it not sucking.

Because people can separate and hope that HBO will eventually learn their lesson. They appear to have done so. However, like with so many HBO ventures, the propensity to frick it up for no good reason is very high, so most people like myself, will stay guarded with their expectations. See "the last of us" for details.

Same with Star Wars and Andor.

Again, you reference works with built in fanbase either from the books, or from a well established IP. Of course those won't fail easily, but they certainly can. Indiana Jones should have been put to bed after seeing the horror of crystal skull, but their still dragging Harrison Ford's old corpse on the set because all of their woke jockying for a replacement keeps failing.

Nailed it. Best quote on that analysis:

"If i was asked to predict what hollywood writers would do if they were asked to write a sequal to lord of the rings:

Defrost the original cast and have them come back as older pussified versions of their characters who learn the true meaning of adventure from a younger more diverse more female replacement that doesn't just outshine them in every way possible but make them realize they were never that heroic in the first place. "
