Rian left JJ in an unsalvageable position.

JJ isn't capable of salvaging anything.

He's coming out like a champ in all this, though. Rian is so bad that people excused the shitfest that was TFA and are already excusing this before even having seen it.

Or WHY people are on that planet playing games, considering what's going on.

That could have been partially interesting as it gave us the possibility that we weren't watching USA vs USSR but something more along the lines of Turkey vs Cyprus with both sides being controlled and played by a greater power.

Of course, Rian went nowhere with it and JJ is actually apparently following that thread, albeit in the dumbest way imaginable.

Just tracked his review down of The Last Jedi and he loved it. So maybe this review is a good sign.

@DiscussingFilm

Definitely the weakest of the new trilogy. Wouldn't say it "undoes" stuff from TFA & TLJ. Biggest problem is pacing and focus on plot over character. However, some may be able to forgive based on how satisfying it gets. Lots of fan service but not entirely "forced". ??

Not quite.

It's a massive overreaction to the criticism of TLJ, but ventures way too far into some weird area of fanfic that no one wants. And like TFA, it raises more questions than it answers.

The people who loved TLJ cant be long time star wars fans. It was so out of place as a star wars movie. Part of me thinks a lot of these folks are star wars fans via pop culture programming. In other words they're the type of people to jump on the trendy things and absorb enough to participate in the culture.

That is the most glaring issue they face.

Those who so rabidly defended TLJ were not the Star Wars fan base that existed for decades.

They are the loudest twitterrati, the ones who defend it, not because it is a good Star Wars movie, but because it is a movie that either pushed some sort of worldview that they supported, or was disliked by groups that they hated, so they had to like it.

I completely agree with you.

Hell, if you read some of the articles or tweets by these ardent defenders of TLJ, many of them haven’t even watched the OT.

Because Disney wanted a cheap way to score more views without putting any thought into it.

$450 million worldwide opening is expected for any major Star Wars movie.

Does it maintain the viewership after the opening though and does it get repeat views?

Because RJ killed Snoke and everyone knows Kylo is a big puss.

I think it's retarded too, but the other option would have been to introduce a new big bad and kill him in the same movie.

lol frickin Rian Johnson

TLJ had $220 million with US opening weekend, which was less than TFA.

I will never understand the responses that Disney gave to the Star Wars fan base after TLJ, basically telling them to “frick off”.

In the business world, companies go out of their ways to get customers feedbacks through surveys. Here you have customers readily giving their opinions and instead of treating as valuable info, Disney said “screw it”. Nice business strategy.

I would say yes, unless the rotten tomato score is really bad. If reviews are bad, it could cut it's legs Saturday and Sunday.
