Star Wars: The Last Jedi delivered on expectations, debuting with the second largest opening weekend of all-time and propelling the box office to the third largest weekend ever based on estimates. In an attempt at counter-programming, Fox's Ferdinand got off to a bit of a slow start against the might of Star Wars as well as the continued strong performance of Pixar's Coco as it fell below Mojo's expectations, though the studio is optimistic when it comes to the film's future.

With an estimated $220 million, Star Wars: The Last Jedi delivered the second largest opening weekend ever behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which debuted with $247.9 million back in 2015. Last Jedi got off to a strong start on Thursday night with the second largest preview gross ever of $45 million and became only the second film to ever gross over $100 million on opening day resulting in the second largest opening day ever, second largest single day, second largest Friday and joins Force Awakens as the fastest films to reach $100 million.

Let's see where it goes from here. It'll be interesting. I wouldn't recommend it to any star wars fan to be honest because it just shits on every movie before it.

Box office for Episode 9 will be interesting. They burned some bridges on this one.

All depends on the marketing. It will make a lot of money. Luke comes back for the next one so Abrams can do something different to appease fanboys if he wants.

Yeah I saw it Thursday, and I may try to catch it again during the week. My friend saw it twice arleady, and said the second viewing was a lot more fun. He wasn’t as critical and it enjoyed it for what it was.

It won't have the legs The Force Awakens did.

This was me. After knowing what direction it went I enjoyed it much more the second time around. Fin's whole story still is the worst part. It is what it is at this point. I can also chalk it up to I just care more about Rey.

My big thing now will be waiting for it to die down. I will most likely go see it one more time in the theater once it dies down some so I can get in there without it being slammed, sitting where I want to sit. We had a girl that went out of the theater at least 4 times at critical moments and the guy she was with was gotten onto twice about being on his phone.

We were running about 30 minutes early and my girl wanted to stop by her place to grab something quick and took 20 minutes. I bought the tickets and an AMC premiere membership while she was grabbing her stuff or we wouldn't have gotten in. We happened to walk in and there was a line about 50 deep still waiting and no one in the premier line so we walked in and straight through fast.

Nothing was stopping the big opening weekend. Next week’s drop off if there is one will be interesting

And yes the next one is going to be an uphill climb. Fans won’t trust the reviews
Agreed.
