And yet, here we have Rey, who thought the Force was a myth in the first half of the film - proceeds to pick up light saber for the first time and destroy Kylo.

I'm alright with the way that fight turned out. Kylo got shot by Chewie. By the time of the fight he had probably lost a significant amount of blood. He was fighting at 50%.

I was fine with the way it turned out. Kylo is experienced with fighting but was pretty beat up by the time he got to Rey.

Other than that, who else thought that was freaking awesome when Kylo tried to force pull the lightsaber and it flew past his head and into Rey's hands?

Also, he only got his arse handed to him when Rey was backed against the cliff of collapsing ground.

Prior to then, Ren was shot by Chewie and nicked by Finn wielding the light saber. Rey was initially force thrown into a tree and knocked temporarily unconscious.

After Finn gets whipped, she awakens and force pulls the light saber from the snow past Ren's same force pull attempt. Both are surprised and this is the first time Rey ignites the light saber. She attacks, but is easily driven backwards during the entire fight.

It wasn't until she was backed against the collapsing chasm that she closes her eyes and "relaxes" while the sabers are at parry. After what seems 5-10 secs "feeling, channeling" the force, she comes out and defeats Ren.

She double handed attacked most of the way very reminiscent of Luke v. Vader final battle ROTJ.

Yeah. Let's not forget a couple of things:

1. Kylo Ren was severely wounded already
2. He grossly underestimated Rey's abilities

Also I think it safe to assume that Rey is very powerful. It could be just a plot convenience, but I think we are going to find out in Episode VIII that Rey isn't your everyday padawan learner.

His style of fighting with a lightsaber was pretty rough as well. Not as fluid or elegant as Vader's.

Holy shite. I just got out of the theater.

Only complaint is I feel like they didn't show the dark side too much.

Also at the beginning when Kylo "force freezes" that shot from the gun... One of the best scenes in all of Star Wars imo

One of my favorite parts, I let out a huge "Let's do this shite" I was pumped. And then when Luke appeared I said "Hell Yes" I had a pretty cool theater. Laughed when they needed to, no phones, everyone was into it from the get go and didn't wanna miss a second. There were some red eyes after it let out but also huge smiling faces. Just an unbelievable experience. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Agreed. That's when I first thought damn this guy has raw power. I didn't know if they were gonna make Ren a weak Vader wannabe but I'm glad they made him a raw, rage filled, uncontrollable, but powerful Vader wanna be. And it took me back to Vader just letting Han's blasts in Empire bounce off his hands. But Ren just caught it. Seemed like some Yoda or Palpatine shite.

Just got out the theatre around 445 and read all the posts on this thread. I was thoroughly impressed by the special effects and overall feel of the movie. My audience was great and no idiots on their cell phones. I loved Rey and Finn. Kylo was good and i think driver did great. I think the people complaining about him need to let his character develop in the next two films as it was very clear he is not properly trained yet. Hopefully he has the acting skills to make his character a dark powerful one. I also agree with everyone on here that the death star plot is getting old. I mean really??? Three friggin times now! Smh! Also, cant wait to see the next film on how they explain this snoke guy. Lastly, if rey is luke's daughter then any theories on who her mom is??? I'll hang up and listen on this question as im obviously a novice star wars fan.

Probably my biggest question and I hope it isn't lame and they gloss over it. It's gotta be a new character. I'm thinking its a character Kylo killed back when he destroyed the new Jedi order which led to his turn to the dark side. Also can't wait for the tension between Rey and Luke if they are father and daughter. I hope him leaving her alone on Jakku ends up biting him in the arse.

The "Excalibur" light saber that chose Rey while ignoring Kylo?

Rey suddenly able to exert mind control over Stormtroopers, despite not one millisecond of formal training?

The rationalization here by some is astounding. Rey's magical "power up" in the second half of the film is ridiculous, both narratively and conceptually.

Meh, I didn't really have a problem with it.

The Skywalker lineage is generally considered the most powerful force users in the Star Wars universe right?

Title being "Force Awakens" too.

Even with this and my fear of another freaking death star, this was a great movie and beats the shite out of the prequels.

Her mother has to be Leia.

I'm also curious what Vader would think of his grandson.

To be honest, I don't think he'd find him impressive and very weak. His lightsaber alone would piss Darth Vader off. And what makes Kylo a good character is he knows that his grandfather would think this of him, and really tries to make up for it. I think some people weren't impressed with Driver because he really isn't a Vader clone and was weak in many areas, but that makes him a better character really for me.

Im sure will get more flashbacks to his training/fall to the dark side with Luke's training if Rey.... I'm sure he won't want to at first because blah blah blah... And we'll see where snoke fits into all this.

I unfortunately agree with this. i think the music playing when Snoke was on screen was the only thing that stood out, the rest was meh.

That, Rey's theme, and the very end.

Before the film started, the owner of the theater spoke about ground rules (no phones, no talking, etc). One person asked "What if Han Solo is killed? Can we talk then?" If I had not been up to date with spoilers, I'd have punched the guy in the face.

Yeah, dick move, but I think it's pretty clear Han was going to die. Harrison Ford hasn't been shy on dissing Return of the Jedi for the treatment of his character, and when he's going nuts about the movie, it's clear Han is finally getting the death and send out he deserves.
