This may be the first star wars movie in theaters (since I've been alive) that I'll skip.

If you didnt skip ROS after the abomination that was TLJ, then there is no reason to skip the Mando movie. Nothing in the mandoverse is anywhere near as bad as the problems with the sequel trilogy.

They're taking their most merchandisable character and putting him in a movie. That was the entire calculation. Season 3 proved that these characters have nothing left and there's nowhere to take the story.

But it's going to be a movie because Disney's MBAs advising Iger have determined this to be the most financially safe movie with a high likelihood for positive returns, both directly through ticket sales and indirectly through ancillary merchandising.

I mean it's right there in the title - "The Mandolorian and Grogu". They don't care about moving Star Wars forward, or creating a new foundation for Star Wars for the next decade - no, it's about showcasing cute Baby Yoda in a movie to maximize merchandise sales.

And yeah, they are desperate. They lost $1.3 billion theatrically in 2023.

You can take the story literally anywhere. Mando is just a wandering ronin/gunslinger. He can wander into literally any adventure.

Disney giving people more of a character they like used to be a good thing.

Yall literally cannot enjoy anything anymore.

In Development means they are considering writing a script. It's not Greenlit. This movie doesn't get made.

The Mandalorian & Grogu
They'd probably be better off shelving Grogu for a while until they finish up the Ahsoka/Thrawn story and can start fresh with some new characters and storylines set 100-150 years into the future where Grogu could be a grown up Jedi badass who can actually speak.

So another episodic Kung Fu type episode that has been done to death dressed up as a feature film? That's what people want? Oh look how cute Baby Yoda is? I'll go see that in the theater.

what do you mean “another”
What Star Wars show has gotten a movie?

You really think they can’t come up with a 2.5 hour plot?

There are a lot of people complaining about this announcement as if it’s not something that was already announced and now we just know who is directing it.

They’ve been talking about a Mando verse movie for over a year.

I swear some of you people just want to be unhappy and bitch about things.

I am just not into dark gritty Star Stars.

I understand the Appeal, but it’s not what the OT was like and not really what i’m looking for in Star Wats IP

You said yourself that the Mandalorian format is him wandering the universe running in to trouble, which is spot on (kind of like the old Kung Fu series with David Carradine). I'm saying that format cannot translate into a feature film; if it's just another episodic type story it will fail. What was it about the series that suggests a feature film is warranted? The sales of little Grogu dolls, tshirts, coffee mugs, etc. and nothing else.

This is the premise of a ton of movies.

Seven Samurai
Yojimbo
Sanjuro

and of course because Leone just ripped these movies off

You see it in the Man With No Name Trilogy and the Magnificent Seven.

Mando literally doesn’t have a name most of season 1. this is his archetype.
