Because Disney wanted to take star wars in a "new" direction and tried to duplicate the style of guardians of the galaxy.

That's the weird thing, though. For the most part, The Last Jedi took itself way too seriously which just made that whole overly broad Yo Mama sequence even odder.

Star Wars is the sci-Fi version of Tolkien’s lord of the rings. It needs that treatment and not trying to MCU SW. Luke is a serious character, that milk jizz thing was literally cringe worthy. Hell even my 13 sw fanatic son was like why did they treat Luke like that in the movie?

Newsflash you stupid hack! That probably means making Luke the main protagonist of The Force Awakens is the best idea for your new movie. You can introduce characters like Rey, Poe, and Finn in the film and have them slowly take over as the "new generation" as the story progresses.

This.

People overlook TFA only because how bad TLJ was. But TFA wasn't great at all, and I'd put it as the worst Star Wars movie when it came out.

Yes the prequels were better in terms of adventure, storyline, and general interest.

No it doesn't. I'm skeptical too but don't be ridiculous. It was a fine teaser.

Visually it was excellent but anybody that says they were excited by it is either being really generous or outright lying.

Beyond not knowing what's going on, we have no clue what journey any of these characters are supposed to be on so it's tough to get too invested.

And they obviously know that which is why they dropped the hammer with Palpatine's laugh at the end.

"Hey, we know y'all don't really connect with these characters but take a guess who possibly may be coming back!"

Absolutely meaningless. People are still largely ridiculing the franchise.

Do not want Palpatine back. Wasn’t the whole point of the original triology (and prequels) that Anakin/Vader was the chosen one and he fulfilled to prophecy of destroying the Sith when he killed the Palpatine?

This. THANK YOU

It really is pretty bad. They clearly wanted to get a certain message across. But easily the worst title along with Attack of the Clones.

Let's not pretend like The Empire Strikes Back is a good name. Incredible movie with a corny as frick title.

I think OML gave part 2 a decent review on opening night

I hated half the movie at the time, was not a fan of the hyperdrive weaponry, but largely in denial on what I had just saw. I vividly remember walking out of the theater thinking I’d at least wait a week before seeing Episode IX if it were playing in the next theater. Within 12 hours of seeing it though and processing what I just watched, I hated it.

Hes obviously going to be in it in some form. Maybe not full fledged Palpatine, but hes part of the path to balancing the force from the OT.

If the Mortis rumor is right, Palpatine will be at least shown.

It looks weird that the last three movies all start with The when you see all of the titles together.

Episode 9 is going to have a Solo type reception at the box office.

Nobody hated TLJ more than me. . .but that is an asinine statement.

It could be 3 hours of Rian Johnson taking an actual dump on Mark Hamill, and it would make a billion dollars.

They just won't be getting a dollar of my money

The Force Awakens was great. Classic Hero’s Journey but with added layers of depth rarely seen in the same archetypal story we are used to. Han fricking Solo was the mentor figure for God’s sake. You can’t tell me that’s not on par with a very flat Obi-Wan from ANH or Qui-Gon from APM. TFA was a perfect reset. Had it properly been built upon with TLJ, you’d be absolutely fine with TFA.

Not sure if this is the “rumor” but I posted this a few pages back...

I stopped reading the comments on page 8 so sorry if someone has already treaded this subject. I GUARANTEE this is the end plot...

The ending scene is Mortis. Sidious is the father. Rey is the daughter. Kylo is the Son. Anakin somehow reincarnates and much like the Altar of Mortis episode must restore the balance. EXACT SAME STORYLINE.

I think Palpatine will be shown without a doubt. I just don’t know how he truly fits into the Mortis structure. Rey and Kylo I get, but Anakin would have to rule the two from as a force ghost? Do the two become some sort of non-human entities? How does this fulfill the prophecy? Does the prophecy mean what we’ve been led to believe, or have we misinterpreted it like Yoda and the Jedi did?

Sidious is the father.

No way. The Father is the balance, Sidious in no way represents balance.

Except it wasn't a reset. It was the 7th chapter in a saga. And it diminished everything before it
