Watching the trailer again, in the beginning Luke says "We've passed on all we know." Since Luke never bothered to train Rey in the 8, I'm wondering who is "We?"

So I’ve watched the trailer twice. Nothing there to give me a TLJ like feeling, but I wasn’t exactly hyped afterwards. I’ll use one of my free tickets to catch it opening night.

If it’s terrible, well hey it’s the last one so i’ll just start mocking it. Might sneak some Jack Daniels. If it’s good, well at least it went out on a high note with no more frickery.

But as of the end of 8, there are no Jedi to train her. Luke certainly couldn't be bothered with it while he was alive.

Rey has all of the text from the Jedi’s past, all of their teachings, and likely all of the teachings from Luke. Add in the chosen one reincarnation possibility and she’ll rediscover all of those lessons as well.

Ya, but have we ever heard a Jedi talk about "we" in terms of the Jedi as a collective?

They are tacitly promising Skywalker vs. Emperor.

We've went from "let the past die" to "RISE OF SKYWALKER"
This is more interesting than I expected, but my level of enthusiasm is still way below where it had been. I'll get around to looking into this after Game of Thrones and Endgame come and go; and that's telling. Once, the promise of a new Star Wars film would have trumped everything.

I figure I'll see it 2nd week, after the reviews come out (the 'real' reviews, from the fans and not the Disney media machine). Unless it's TLJ bad, then I'll wait til it hits Disney+.

BTW, curious to see how Disney+ is going to work. 6.99 a month and you can download stuff? That's a no-brainer, just for the library. I wonder if you will be able to view those downloads if you let the subscription expire... they have to block that I assume. Otherwise, I'm going to start looking for the best deals on external HDs and 4k burners, cloud be damned.

“We do not grant you the rank of master”.

I understand that was moreso “we” meaning “the councel” but it’s a collective use. I’d have to rewatch/reread everything to find a specific example; but I will be paying attention to this moving forward.

Ya, but that use has context. Whereas (as of right now) Luke's words don't. I'm not saying you're wrong or anything with your interpretation.

I think it's just one of those little tidbits that's going to be discussed right up until the movie.

Plot twist: The other "we" is Ahsoka Tano

The name makes no sense given the closure of VIII unless Rey is a Skywalker.

Palpatine coming back in any form is stupid.

If they planned both of those things from the start this is horrible execution. If they're making shite up as they go in response to VIII's reception this is also horrible execution. If those two things are happening I'd rather not know going in.

It's this. They wrote 7 with no idea what 8 would be. And now they are writing 9 as best they can given 8 kneecapping them. I can guarantee you Snoke was not introduced to unceremoniously die off with no significance.

They have 1 movie to try to make any sort of coherent narrative happen. It's an impossible task given what's transpired.

Based on the replies to this comment, I'm in the minority, but I'm not sure I'm thrilled about that, either. I don't want them to retell a story that was already done well enough.

You have a better chance of enjoying Rian Johnson's upcoming trilogy than getting to keep downloads from Disney+

They will just go the Amazon/Netflix route and only let downloads be active for one month before having to activate it again.

If that's the case, the "fans" have only themselves to blame.

If this is what happens, I might be convinced to see it in the theater.

Nope. Fans didn't make episode 8 have a completely nonsensical storyline.

Nope, but they did whine nonstop like fricking children about a movie that's not even the worst in the franchise because they didn't get their way.

Nah. The entire saga is Palpatine vs Skywalker.
