Well he died so there's that, but he was probably as content as he had been in years in that moment.
Still, I understand that you can't have 60 year old Mark Hammill doing spins and flips like Yoda nor can he reasonably be the face of the franchise (he hasn't aged well) into the foreseeable future at his age and state.
He can be alive but not be the main focus of the story, but if you have to kill him, let him do what it is he set out to do instead of dieing a failure.

There was really no point of the Casino scene or Finn & Rose's mission.

The whole casino scene was pointless. They never actually met the master codebreaker and they just happen to get put into a cell with someone who is another codebreaker. Even then their plan fails and turns out to be pointless.

My guess is the force projection took so much out of him physically that it killed him.

BB-8 was used for humor maybe like 3 or 4 times in TFA. Here it's every god damn time he's on screen. It's just pathetic that the movie is constantly like "Hey look at me! Don't forget about me! See how crazy and funny I am?"

I wouldn't want him doing that shite. What I was wanting/expecting was for him to take all that fire power from the AT-ATs and redirect it at them using only the Force. That would have been fricking awesome.

The Yoda lightning scene was stupid as shite.
Where the FRICK was that when Luke needed it at the end of ROTJ or when Ben Solo was burning down the temple or when the star killer was about to fire or....never mind. You get the point. That was going full retard.
With the above precedent, Luke (now himself a force ghost) removes all tension from the rest of the movies because now there is an all-powerful force around them that can do pretty anything at anytime to get anyone out of any situation
