Question for you geeks: Did anybody else's screening seem really dark a lot. I could barely see what was going on in several parts. Maybe it was just my angle to the screen, but it was pretty frustrating.

This was a really bad movie. We waited two years for a flaming pile of shite. Yes, some people loved it, some people hated it. I went in with an open mind and came out very disappointed. I didn’t expect it to be better than TFA, but I also didn’t expect it to be this bad. Hey, it happens, see Ep1, for example. I’ll still be in the theater on opening night of ep9 either way.

Remember, you have to pull your shirt down completely over your head when you put it on.

It will be interesting to see where they go with the next episode. One of the biggest misopportunities was not letting admiral ackbar be in the role of the purple haired bitch. I had zero emotional investment in her whatsoever, which made her sacrifice have zero impact. Luke’s saber toss over his head was cringeworthy, and left a bitter taste in my mouth throughout the rest of the movie. Not to mention Poe’s taunting of the general was just so cringe and really showed how much of a pussy the general was. Doesn’t come anywhere close to the cold and intelligent Tarkin from A New Hope. The biggest positive I took away from this movie was how brilliantly they showed Kylo Ren’s struggle between the light and dark side. One second you would think he was turning good and the next second you were thinking no he’s still evil. This flip flop was prevalent throughout the entire movie going back and forth and it really captured Ren’s internal conflict quite well. A lot of the hate around how Luke is portrayed is understandable, but I thought it was okay. He had a very similar mindset to how Yoda was whenever he met him in Dagobah. Luke was basically like frick everything, I don’t want to be responsible for this anymore and that’s why he was so isolated and closed off. Overall I thought it was good, but nothing spectacular or even close to being the best in the sega.

Which kinda makes the OT trash when you think about it

I literally went in wanting one thing: Luke to wreck shite. And he didn’t.

It’s obvious. Luke’s character represents HOPE in SW. I mean, come on, look at the title of the first SW movie.
He was the eternal optimist who never gave up on FREAKING VADER (after he killed billions and all the Jedi). His light brought his father back.
His character is entirely based off the idea of internal resilience. We JUST watched Rogue One which was all about setting things up for HOPE aka LUKE.
And then the next movie shits all over the central idea of His existence. That’s why Hammill was upset about the direction of the character.

quote:Meh, dude had completely turned away from the force for several years. Reconnecting and manifesting the force that strongly after all that time could reasonably have drained him.
Which is lazy and a slap in the face to a character like Luke Skywalker.

There was really no point of the Casino scene or Finn & Rose's mission.
They easily could've saved 30 minutes of useless storyline by just making it so that Dern's character was actually a traitor who was helping the First Order track the Resistance ships. Have Poe/Leia get rid of her after some reveal, and keep Ackbar alive so he can be the one to ram Snoke's ship.
This was just such a jumbled mess to me. So many unnecessary plot points and nothing really to show for it. How the frick is the First Order even stronger and more feared after TFA? Did their massive secret weapon/HQ not just get blown the frick up?
And so Kylo Ren is actually good? No, he's bad... wait, no.. he is goo--WAIT nope he's bad again. Just dumb.

I wish they could’ve included Obi Wan with Yoda during his encounter with Luke. Throughout the entirety of the OT, both Obi Wan and Yoda we’re an integral part of Luke’s life and decision making. I was disappointed they didn’t have Obi Wan in there with Yoda, could’ve been so much cooler. Honestly, looking at the entire movie that’s what its biggest downfall is. There’s so much potential in there, but they swung and missed on a lot of things. A lot of missed opportunities.

I see your point... Rogue One wasn’t setting up for this movie at all though considering it was before A New Hope, which was the central idea around the original trilogy. Luke was basically turned into a Obi Wan like roll after the fall of the empire.

Leia flying through space was WTF worthy

I know a lot of people would've probably hated it, but I was at the point where I thought it would've been cool if Hayden Christensen's ghost turned up with Yoda to teach Luke his lesson.
To me, that scene just didn't carry the weight that I had hoped for.

Yeah, I’m pretty glad where they ended Kylo Ren’s character as a whole in the movie, but they needed more development and screentime for him, especially with Snoke training him. That was promised to the viewers at the end of TFA.
The film should have broke down like this:
Rey/Luke- 45%
Kylo/Snoke- 35%
Everything Else- 20%

I really liked the movie and I am really enjoying everyone’s “outrage” about the inclusion of female and people of color characters.
