The one change that they should have done in TLJ is have Rey join Kylo at the end.
That would have been an amazing twist and would have made for great conflict.
The Resistance would have been destroyed and hopeless.
Their hero has now gone to the enemy.
That would have been “subverting everyone’s expectations”.
It also would have made for a great bit of conflict in the 3rd movie between Kylo and Rey.
So much potential that was ruined in the 2nd movie.
That would have been an amazing twist and would have made for great conflict.

Apparently in the flashback scenes with Leia training with a lightsaber she kicks Luke's arse.

He's basically on life support and half-dead throughout most of the movie. In the final act he "absorbs the life force" from Kylo and Rey to return to full strength.

So apparently this is a real thing that happens...
Palpatine says "I AM SNOKE" just before the Snoke-clones-in-tanks reveal. When Kylo asks how he's returned, Palpatine repeats "The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural" from Ep III. That's all we get, other than Dom Monighan and company spit-balling how he could be back and basically chalking it up to Sith magic.

That would be a logical callback to probably the most important conversation in Star Wars lore.
Too bad we missed part two of the story and had to go from one to 3.

I’m going Thursday night because I didn’t have the heart to break me and my younger cousins tradition up, I’ve obviously read the leaks and pretend I don’t know them when I talk to him.
It’s amazing though, he doesn’t know the leaks but expects it to be a piece of shite based on TLJ. Anybody with a rational brain knew there was nothing to save after that film, BUT it’s gonna be hard not to laugh during some of these scenes when they play out.
There’s not a bigger fricking in film history when it comes to the future of a franchise than when Rian truly fricked everything Star Wars in TLJ. JJ in his hubris thought he stood a chance by bringing back Palps and Lando but my god this is even worse than we imagined. I recommend all read the thread on r/starwarsleaks it’ll prepare you

Because Jon Favreau, whether he is a fan of a property or not, understands that it is his job to put together a movie that audiences for that movie will enjoy and want to watch multiple times. It’s not about him, it’s not about his creative license, it’s about giving people satisfying and entertaining stories with characters and environments people know and love.
He’s a steakhouse owner who gets a variety of good quality cuts, picks some good sides, and serves them how his customers want.
