Advanced copies of the official Lucasfilm book were sole in Chicago’s C232 over the weekend, and one excited reader posted an extract on social media that reveals Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) in Episode IX is a clone of the actual Palpatine from the original Star Wars trilogy.

Kylo Ren makes the discovery after arriving on Exegol.

“All the vials were empty of liquid save one, which was nearly depleted,” the book reads. “Kylo peered closer. He’d seen this apparatus before, too, when he’d studied the Clone Wars as a boy. The liquid flowing into the living nightmare before him was fighting a losing battle to sustain the Emperor’s putrid flesh.

It continues: “’What could you give me?’ Kylo asked. Emperor Palpatine lived, after a fashion, and Kylo could feel in his very bones that this clone body sheltered the Emperor’s actual spirit. It was an imperfect vessel, though, unable to contain his immense power. It couldn’t last much longer.”

Ehhh...he was brought in late to try and fix a sinking ship. If Disney really cared, they would've pushed the film back to allow more time on the script.

Yeah, he did what he could with what he had.

When I saw it in theaters I thought it was going to be something like Palpatine was force ghosting and used machines to animate his old, dead body to make it seem like he had actually returned if that makes any sense at all. I figured that's why his body was so decrepit and needed machines to get around.

Granted, the 2nd Death Star exploded and there shouldn't be a body left but still.

Disney trying to manufacture fake hype through their owned media channels.

It was clearly a half arse attempt at saving a total shite soup. Of course it wasn't thought through.

They should just admit they fricked up and move on.

JJ did it with Star Trek where you had to read a comic book series to understand Spock traveling to a new timeline and now you have to read a book to understand the setup with the emperor. You shouldn’t have to do homework to enjoy and understand a movie.

Come to think of it we really never saw why the first order came about in TFA. There are some things that need explaining before they are presented or at least expounded upon during the course of the movie. JJ is awful at that

I'm still asking why The Rabbit's Foot was so important in Mission Impossible 3.

A little timeline for context to my question:
So the Rebellion wins, Palpatine dies, but the war continues.

Palpatine gets into an INCOMPLETE/FAILING clone body and starts building Star Destroyers with super lasers on a hidden planet.

At the same time, Palpatine is trying to destroy the Empire in Operation Cinder which leads to a lot of death and destruction.

The remnants of the Empire flee into the Unknown Regions and rebuild as The First Order AS part of Palpatine's plan to make a stronger organization.

Palpatine creates Snoke to be a puppet leader of the First Order. The First Order somehow becomes the production leader of weapons, ships, and new technology.

Then the new trilogy happens.

One question: if he made the first clone body, why didn't he make more in the intervening DECADES? He obviously could make plenty of clones; there were several Snokes from what I've heard.

I read somewhere that he didn't want the Emperor and that it was KK's insistence to include him. Not sure how true that was, but it makes sense. If true then JJ did the best he could with what he was forced to work with

To be fair that's most of his products.

CLOVERFIELD had websites explaining the creature surfacing and a manga that acted as a sequel in the weirdest Boy and his Monster way.

Curious... when did SW start adopting this? It’s very similar to the system that the Cylons used in Battlestar Galactica.

It can work, sure. I didn't really mind the First Order assumption because I enjoyed TFA at the time. But the sudden departure from what everyone assumed at the end of Return of the Jedi to what we got really called for a bit more examination. It would have served the story better to know more why decisions were made and how and why things happened. Of course that was really glaring due to TLJ sucking so bad in hindsight.

I don't really blame him in ROS either, because he was trying to salvage the suck, but so many questions presented with little or no explanation can make for a confusing movie. It seemed rushed and out of place to have the Emperor there with a legion of Star Destroyers just now surfacing. Why? How? That should always be a part of the story.

It has been a thing in the pre-Disney EU for quite some time.

The new SW content Disney is putting out is 1000x better than the new trilogy. I dont even consider that new trilogy cannon in my mind. It is such a mess and fricks with the whole continuity of the SW universe. As far as I am concerned the Star Wars story ended with ROTJ.

it's a bit like when a second Deathstar came from out of nowhere in RotJ. More believable than what happens in Rise of Skywalker, but they establish in the PT that it took 20 years to build the first one. Even if you take into account the time saved by already knowing "how" to build it, building and fitting out a moon-sized space station should take longer than the span of 2-3 years in between ESB and RotJ.

This RoS was an absolute shitstain.

I don’t understand why it doesn’t get close to the hate TLJ gets.

It’s fricking downright awful.

Probably cause TLJ started the spiraling downfall. A good percentage of us said peace out after TLJ and didn’t bother with RoS. I will probably watch it when it comes to D+, but not in a rush.
