Episode 2: Nurse Chappell sucks. What a bee-otch.

Episode three is out. It’s a good one. It contains a lot of the things you are looking for in a strong weekly episode: a near-impossible problem that takes teamwork to fix (and can be done in 60 minutes), a little bit of action, callbacks to running storylines, and multiple ethical choices to make… under pressure.
A lot of what I like about SNW and Star Trek as a whole features prominently in this one.
Not perfect, of course… but very good!

We knew Ortega wasnt going to die. Remeber "shes a war hero" from the crossover episode.

Chappel gets Spock to leave his wife. Fall in love with her. Act more human to suit her. Then she goes and screws her instructor then brings him back to the ship that her ex is on the bridge crew of? That was cold. I get people break up. People move on. But you go without a date or you wait longer than 3 months to bring new guy around. That really makes me dislike her. But damn she is hot though. Second to T'pol in my trek babes ranking.

Episode 4 is a Holodeck episode, but this time we see the origin of the Holodeck, which is kind of cool.
La’An is center stage in this one. I think she’s the series’ breakout character, so I’m good with that.
This episode again demonstrates the frustration with a lack of exploration in the show in favor of allowing the characters (and particularly the actors) to pull the freight.
Despite that, it’s still good. Original Star Trek had plenty of “whimsy” episodes like this. Sometimes I think the show just has the wrong name. If it wasn’t called “Strange New Worlds” maybe we would not be as frustrated with the lack of actual new worlds.
Not spoiling anything… but the end will generate some opinions about relationships in the show.

I watch because its Star Trek, but, good lord, can they explore something besides romantic relationships?

I like “Strange New Spock.”
Dude is a major player. But why/how?
One of SNW’s major flaws for such a relationship-y show: lack of available men to romance all those ladies. So Spock is the ONLY eligible bachelor on the ship? Throw Scotty a bone, man!

A Space Adventure Hour.
Nice episode with a bit of a Jim Kirk reference.
The episodes directed by Jonathan Frakes are always above par. Liked the reference to his Riker chair-sit in the closing credits.

Don't worry, he gets her back later down the line. She would forever pine after him and he would ignore her advance. In fact, when Spock was hit the mating disease, aka, all he need to do was frick, he refuse her and even threw hot soup at her.
He has a lot of resentment for her.

We had Lizard chestbusters and zombie Klingons though.

I wonder if they will take "Horn-Dog" Spock and transition to the more logic-driven and less horny Spock at some point? There's some scuttlebutt about a potential "Early Kirk" series from where he took command of the Enterprise running up to the TOS timeline...
I'm guessing they would treat Spock as one that has not go through the "Kolinahr" yet and some will occur to drive him more toward a full time Vulcan lifestyle. In TOS, he barely notices Chapel and she's a lovesick puppy so I wonder how they would clean all of that up.

A Space Adventure Hour.
I thought it was going to be a re-do of Data's battle with Moriarty, when Data made the mistake of creating a villain who could defeat "him" and not his character. But I enjoyed the twist.
And I'm glad that we're getting more Scotty, and a real hairdo for Uhura.
And the "bloopers" at the end, Riker directing a scene with a Riker-Chair-Mount gone wrong...

IMO episode 5 is the best of the season so far, I’d say it’s a mix of Indiana Jones with a little horror thrown in.

Feels like the writers really wanted a way to amp up drama and ended up making Chappel behave way out of character.

And I wasn't a fan of Carol Kane's character until Scottie showed up. They bounce off of each other well.

Pretty good episode. It also reminded me of “Event Horizon” and the old ST episode “Wolf in the Fold”. The fight in Sickbay really caught my attention. And we finally got a “strange new world”.
A few minor nits:
That thing Scotty did near the end happened so fast that I had to back it up a few times to see what happened.
Transporter buffer magic again. Sigh.
Please tell me that thing they stored in the computer is stored as an “X-File”. ??
So, they can just regrow hands and eyes now? Then why was Geordi wearing an oversized hair barette on his face a hundred years later?

Spoilers
It sure seemed that the Gorn part of Captain Batel recognized the evil entity that had control over Gamble.
I thought the same about Geordi as soon as he mentioned regenerating Gambles eyes, but my Star Trek knowledge isn’t as vast as some posters on here.

The issue with Geordi was that his optic nerves were severely underdeveloped/missing due to a birth defect… so it was more about his ability to interpret visual information than the eyes themselves.
I thought this latest episode was pretty strong. It had an escape room/Dungeons and Dragons vibe to it. I was pretty surprised when it took that gory turn. I was like… oh shite…
That villain is definitely coming back.

This last one was better. I wonder if these evil entities was Jack the Ripper in that TOS episode. The way the engineer lady described it reminded me of that entity.
