Holland is legit IMO, 90s cartoon Spiderman was my shite and Holland is actually believable at Peter Parker.

It's so hard to think about the Sam Raimi versions now, and even harder to think of the mayhem at the Rave in BR my freshman year for the midnight showing of SM3.

God damn, Marisa Tomei is like a fine wine.

You people don’t deserve this movie. Marvel is giving you gold and you’re bitching because you don’t like the denomination.

Mysterio is comic accurate

I think Gyllenhaal will do a great job with that character

Lots of hate for the SJW comment

Allow me to irritate you all a little more...

The SJW aspect I speak of is akin to the case of Star Trek: Voyager in that it seems the roles were created and filled primarily to satisfy a racial diversity criteria with their ability to drive the story being a far second.

As to the "Peter's in Queens" comment... I am in Queens quite often (Richmond Hills, Kew, Jamaica, LIC, riding the Q10, the E and LIRR) and the groups of kids I see are predominantly of the same race (the larger the group, the more of them there are of the same race). What you don't see are groups of 5 or 6 kids and every single one of them is of some different race.

This lends a feel of an inorganic group that's thrown together more to beat the viewer over the head with a narrative rather than to just tell a good story.

That's been Star Trek since day one.

It only beats the viewer over the head with it if the viewer allows it to.

You say they just need to tell a good story, and that's what they did. The cast had great chemistry and played a big part in that.

Again, they are at a magnet school that gets all the smart kids from area public schools.

Spider-Man homecoming is the most overrated mcu movie of all time. It pales in comparison to the raimi movies

In 1960, Queens was 91% white. As of 2010, Queens is 87% not-white.

Homecoming and this movie are not set in 1960. What does Flash being white have to do with his character, other than "he's always been white?" Is it a character defining trait?

Great teaser honestly, and Gyllenhal looks so perfect. Can't wait for that. And I love the fake hero angle. I'm pumped.

quote:

MJ is a new character. Her name isn't Mary Jane. It's Michelle Jones. LINK

The problem with MJ is she's defined by her red hair and her modeling/acting career, which doubles down on what she looks like in the comics. They got around that with the name change, but using MJ....eh. I get it and don't mind it, but for anyone that has read SM, it feels awkward.

quote:

Also, I'm not sure why Flash's race would matter. He's a dude who bullies Peter in high school and eventually becomes Venom. If you were going to complain about anything I would think it would be about changing him from a football star to a smart rich kid (which kind of makes sense b/c they are all attending a science and tech magnet school in the movie).

All of this. I'm way more upset about Flash not being a typical jock bully. Don't care about the race change. I think they should have stuck to the jock angle because Flash is supposed to be what Peter is not.

All of the other characters are fine, and I like his sidekick honestly. I think it works. I do wonder if we'll ever get Harry. And actually I'm fine with that for now

Hey look, it's a series that doesn't have to give you the same five characters over and over and over again.....

ut I took MJ's line as a poke at that type of thing - almost an anti-PC jibe. She gives a typical proto-feminist line after PP says she looks pretty, "Therefore I have value?" And then let's him off the hook, "I'm just messing with you." Sort of gives the message, "isn't that kind of stuff ridiculous?" That's how I took it, anyway. I like her take in MJ so it didn't bother me a bit Or its just two teenagers flirting with each other

I know right, I get this from girls and now women (in my 30s) who liked me. I would hold the door for them or something and they would say "what you think I can't do it cause imma woman?!" I would get a crazy, caught off guard look then they would laugh and say "just f@#king with you, that was nice of you"

We do have another Avengers before this Spider-Man movie so that could explain the suit.

Or... since Aunt May now knows he is Spider-Man I wouldn't be surprised if she packs it for him thinking she is doing him a solid.
