I'm excited about it. Angelina is a perfect cast for it. I'm still #TeamJen though.

basically Sleeping Beauty told from the villain's POV.

This. But she turns out to be "not so bad" at some point . . . I think.

I will wait on the reviews, but the previews I have seen make it look pretty solid.

It is supposed to be Maleficent's back story. Sleeping Beauty only shows the story of Aurora and Maleficent in that time frame.

This is about how she came to hate Aurora's father the King, what made her evil, etc. Meleficient origins.

This is a totally new story based on characters from a movie based on a fairy tale.

It looks pretty good though. I believe people have been asking for this since "Sleeping Beauty" was released. Couldn't do live action until now.

People can say what they want, but without CGI, we would not have many of the stories that just couldn't be done live action before. The real key is how much CGI is used and if it enhances or becomes the story.

The problem with CGI is that studios use it as a crutch.

Oz: Great and Powerful could have been an amazing film if 90% of the characters and environments hadn't been CGI.

Studios who want to tell live-action fairy tales should look to Pan's Labirynth for guidance. They did an amazing job of balancing make-up and puppeteering with CGI.

As for this movie - meh. Looks like too much CGI...again. I was already severely let down by the Oz movie. I'm hesitant to get burned again.

Also, they should just make a Wicked movie instead of this. And make the movie based on the novel, not the musical.

That's not to imply the musical isn't amazing...because it is...but a movie based on the novel could be more serious and reach a wider audience.

In the most recent trailer, one of the monsters looks like a rock encrusted version of the Balrog from FOTR.

I agree, but some movies have been able to use it effectively.

The Star Wars prequels did a really mixed job with CGI. They had some amazing CGI landscapes, but all the indoor scenes looked like real people on a green screen.

Poor Walt Disney must be turning over in his grave. This movie is one big steaming pile of crap. I took my 8 year-old niece to the early showing this morning. All I can say is that Disney took perhaps their most iconic villain and ruined her. I'm cool with giving her a back story or even telling the fairy tale from her point of view, but they completely changed her nature from evil to good.

Saw a review for it that had a lot of spoilers, sounds like it's a pretty terrible story, but Jolie did a great job of being Jolie.

you must not have read all the stories Walt butchered when he made his versions of classic fairly tales if you think he would be all that upset about major changes to characters.

Original sleeping beauty would be more appropriate as a GoT episode.

Yeah....right. I can't imagine anyone who is a fan of Disney's original animated film would love this crappy flick. Angelina Jolie does what she can with the character, but the story stinks.

Look, you said Walt would roll over in his grave over the changes to the character of Maleficent

I'm sorry but that is just silly when one takes into account that he made major changes to characters in his adaptations all the time.

I was watching 24 on the Hulu last night, and one of the commercials was for this movie. My wife said she wanted to go see it. Couldn't believe it. Not, I want to take our daughter to see it. Not, that looks like it would be good, we should stream it in a few months. It was I want to go to the theaters and see it. Crazy.

It's probably going to be like a prequel, where we learn what made Malificent an evil witch prior to casting a spell on Aurora. I would like to see it

Saw it last night. Wasnt terrible. Jolie is the movie, and I think she nailed it. Couldve been great, but it bogs down in the middle. Nice twist in the end. I'd rate it slightly higher than RT has it...but not much. PSA previews make it seem much "scarier" than it ends up. Took my 5 and 8 year olds without a hitch, they enjoyed it fwiw.

Just came back from seeing it.

Sleeping Beauty has always been my favorite Disney Movie and I loved this adaptation. Similar but totally different. I've never been a fan a Jolie, but she was great in this role.

I can see why one would say it bogs down a bit in the middle but I don't really think so because you see what's developing. I don't love what they did with the 3 fairies this go-round.
