They explain that at some point. She worked in the coffee shop or whatever that he would frequent and they intellectually connected bc of the crossword puzzles.
And he sold off his stake in Grey Matter very early on for 2500 bucks. Company would have had near 0 revenue for a co-owner to unload for that little.

I think that part was pretty clear. Walter was a genius. His life at the start of the show was the life of wasted potential and what might have been done with his intellect. Part of why Skylar is so resentful early in the show is probably how far short of his vast potential he has fallen. He's a great teacher and father before he breaks bad. But that carries very little respect and minimal financial benefits for him or his family.

I didn't say she was ugly, but shes very meh.
Which is why I don't get the fascination with her. She's a dime a dozen in any HEB or Kroger in Texas.

She gets no points at all. Belittled and sniped at Walt from the beginning, hypocritical and judgmental, a criminal and a cheater. She’s not innocent in the least.

Pointing out Walt’s faults or misdeeds doesn’t change what Skylar was. You’re just creating a victim scoreboard which is beside the point. The other poster said “we all pull for Walt” but I didn’t, Walt is a POS and really has no redeeming qualities. Skylar is also an empty person. It’s not a competition.

Good point. We have the who was the least despicable main character on BB about every other month and my favorite suggestion from those other threads is Skinny Pete. Badger probably second. I also think Marie gets way too much hate. Her kleptomania was a mental illness/problem not a character flaw. Also, Skyler was one of Jerry's girlfriends on Seinfeld.

Maybe but the series doesn’t show us that so I can only go off of what we’ve seen or been told. When we begin Walt is an unfulfilled person who pretends to be happy to pacify Skylar who is the domineering, controlling person in the relationship. Walt becomes a monster, Skylar kind of remains the same but acts out more the more justification she believes she has as Walt continues his descent.

She does it for attention. Hank is the big man persona, Walt is the family genius, Skylar is the controlling person who gets attention because she demands it with her dramatic nonsense. Marie is the prettier sister and the perfect housewife/housekeeper/sister/sister in law/aunt and nobody notices her so she steals which is an affront to Hanks profession but not enough of one to make her a bad person. It’s just enough to get everyone’s attention,

Marie catches a lot of shite, but she’s the perfect wife and I’d marry her tomorrow. Doctor/PA so brings home the bacon, but respects a man’s man like Hank. Understands when her partner needs to be left alone and when he needs to be pushed or when he needs comfort. Loyal.
Skyler sucks. She wants revenge the second she feels she’s not getting what she wants whether that’s the quiet treatment without communicating why or cheating on her husband and bragging about it to his face.
