He's gone for a while, but I do not doubt that he will make an appearance in some form later. I think it's fair to say that he is done as Pied Piper's main nemesis.

Gavin solved the unknowns that was originally on the picture. If you go look at what was written on the picturing during the "Previously On Silicon Valley" part of the episode and compare it to the writing that was on the picture Gavin sent, its different.
Richard knew it was possible but didn't know exactly how and Gavin helped him solve it before he left.
