Just got out. It was pretty good.

Great example of a director completely saving a script. Would've been dogshit with a lesser director. It was a well-made movie. Well-shot, well acted, great sound design. Overlong and fairly uninteresting story, though. Glad it excelled in its other areas

3/5

exactly

I thought Blunt and her sidekick were miscast. Brolin's smirk didn't work for me. 2 of the 3 stars come ftom Del Toro's performance.

Just got back from it. Wow. It should be front runner for many many awards this season

I still go back to several shots in which the use of negative space made my jaw drop. Entering the tunnel and as they dropped below the horizon may have been two of the best shots in cinema that I've seen in years.

I agree, the cinematogrphy felt very Hitchcock ish.....which was awesome.

The fricking border scene in the beginning was unbelievably suspenseful and incredibly shot/edited.

Her sidekick definitely was. As in, shouldn't have been cast at all.

I rewatched this movie (in a quiet theater this time), and it was much better than I thought. I'll change my rating to 7.5/10. One of the better movies of the year.

I mean the dipshit did almost get her killed, and still had the nerve to push his holier than thou naive agenda. How about that agenda though...

I mean does anyone seriously side with Blunt's perspective on the whole scenario? I mean it's fairly obvious and very easily justifiable to me that the CIA/Alejandro objective is the correct way to handle the mission in the region.

Solid, tense movie that shows how fricked up and impossible the war on drugs really is. Would rate at 8.3/10

Incredible movie. I had a smile on my face while watching the caravan enter Mexico. Its one of those moments where you realize, yep I'm going to love this movie.

It was like watching an action movie with a horror movie tone. Amazing cinematography as well.

pretty intense movie, the score was interesting it gave the movie a added kick. 2 of the 3 stars come ftom Del Toro's performance. I have always enjoyed Brolin movies. solid 8/10.
I thought the chick and her sidekick were miscast - but that's just my opinion.

People always talk about the Russians and the Irish as being ruthless, but fvck the Mexican cartels. Those mo-fo's terrify me to the bone.

I've read so many books on the subject that I have to see the movie. At the same time, I'm physically nervous about how brutal this movie could be because I've read those books. If it's done the way they actually do things down there, I'm gonna have a tough time watching this movie. It's hard to freaking read about that stuff much less see it on screen.

much like the great horror films, the intensity is psychological.

It's not particularly brutal or full of gore, though there is certainly some.

Honestly, it's the directing, cinematography, music/score and the performances that all come together and keep you on the edge of your seat.

Unlike a lot of movies in this genre, there isn't any cheesy dialogue or overly macho-ness. It's very believable and gritty. It feels very real

Also, from reading this thread, glad to see Prisoners getting some love. I saw this movie a month ago or so randomly and was stunned how good it was. Granted I was working outside the US when it released, but I still hadn't heard anything about it.

That movie is freaking awesome. My gf (no pics) fell asleep per usual during it. Wtf is wrong with women? I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!

I listened to a bit of the score last night just for kicks and its just so haunting. So simple but it is perfect. It just fills you with dread

I meant I thought she would be the focus. She's obviously a huge character.

The movie does a very good job in giving the viewer a sense of evil that exceeds the normal maniacal "they'll cut your head off!" manner of typical cartel portrayal. Sort of hard to describe.

IMO, the darkest, most depraved corners of the planet right now (for purposes of entertainment portrayal) are portions of the ME, the former USSR states, and Mexico. Obviously the ME is well covered in some ways, the former Soviet states star in cheap thriller/action movies a lot, and there has been some attention to Mexico in tv shows and movies.

But good books and movies used to do a really good job of portraying not only the brutality of the USSR, but also the inevitability and hopelessness that dominated it. That's probably the best comparison I can give to how the cartels/Mexico are treated in this movie. It's dark. It's awesome.

Just got out of this movie.

Loved every minute of it. Del Toro killed it and man, that score was epic. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

8.5/10

Will watch again soon.

I hated the chick and her partner, they were terrible characters. Always whining and incompetent, she should have been honored to be on that mission, not acting like a little girl the whole movie. Hopefully the real fbi is better than their portrayal. Otherwise great movie.
