This post is the TD equivalent of a numbers station.

We didn't need to see Rocky fight before the real fight.

For those that don't know, Dipper is the fighter that Mick gave Rocky's locker to. In the deleted scene Apollo goes to Rocky's training and taunts him. Dipper steps to Rocky and says he stole his title shot. Rocky knocks Dipper out and it's supposed to show Apollo that Rocky isn't some scrub.

Nah. Better they left that out. Apollo underestimating Rocky is kind of a big point in the movie. One of the most iconic parts of the movie, the meat locker scene, showed how serious and dangerous Rocky was. Apollo dismissed it while his trainer Duke took notice.
Including that deleted scene would have ruined those scenes and that subplot.

The actor playing Duke, Tony Burton, had a brief career as a professional fighter before going to prison for robbery. After prison he drifted into stage acting and ultimately started appearing in television and films in the mid-70s. Obviously, Duke is his most widely known role, but he was notable in the original Assault on Precinct 13 (and appeared in the 2005 remake), Hook, several other film appearances and a shite ton of guest appearances on TV series in the 70s and 80s.
He was uncredited in Stir Crazy and was in a memorable scene:
And, probably his immortality is guaranteed by the meme:

Yeah and there's not really a reason why Apollo would've thought Dipper was more than some scrub.

Plus it makes no sense. Apollo picked Rocky out of a list of fighters based on his name and nickname. The fight was supposed to be a marketing gimmick by giving an underdog white Italian boxer from the streets a shot at the title.
Apollo isn't picking some guy named Dipper out of a list and marketing that. Doesn't make sense that Rocky took Dipper's shot because of a locker.

Duke always respected Rocky’s tenacity. The scene where he tries to persuade Apollo to move on in Rocky II is one of the better scenes. Even at the end of the first round when Apollo totally controls things he says, “Don’t let up on this man. This man is dangerous! This man is dangerous!”

In the book, Dipper was ranked and moving up. That's why Mick gave him the locker.
Apollo visited Micky's gym to showboat while Rock was training. Dipper was mad as hell and got in the middle of it, saying Rocky took his shot. When Mike tried to cool him off, he struck him. Rocky's ankles were tied together as part of a footwork drill. Dipper told him to bend down and get something, calling him a pussy. Rocky complied then as he was totally bent down, he exploded into Dipper's exposed ribs. Left him lying on the ground with probably cracked or broken ribs - a foreshadowing of what he did to Apollo in the 14th.

He wouldn't even watch Rocky beat his meat on television, why would he watch anything else besides his business and money at that point

Dipper Brown looks like Narvel Blue in Everybody's All American. I get them confused. INB4 racist.
