For the rest of the guys in prison, I bet their lives really sucked for a while after Andy pulled that shite.

How did he get to Portland to get to the banks?

There had to be 2 days at least after he dropped off the books with the bank teller before the paper hit and the cops descended on the prison. He got the money the next day.

What tunnel? From the movie, it looked like he only needed to get through the wall in his cell, which lead to crawl spaces and then engineering spaces that housed the sewer pipe. He then entered the pipe and crawled out. I really didn't see a tunnel.

Looks pretty deep to me.

Did they conveniently forget, or did they just realize that he was wrongly convicted and likely an innocent man. Wasn't a main reason for killing Tommy was to make sure he did not help Andy find the person responsible for the murders.

And regarding not having his cell tossed. Once he started doing them favors and became the wardens go to guy; I am sure he became off limits for some of those things. Plus, knowing how careful he was, once he started creating his tunnel (have read it was a 10' tunnel), I am sure he was on his best behavior to make sure he doesn't draw any more attention.

Well, not his best behavior.

If I remember correctly, he started the tunnel very early on, basically right after he got the rock hammer. The scene with the record happened long after he was in the good graces of the warden.

The book covered it, in which he had that cell forever in part because of doing favors for all the guards and the warden.

He’d had a cell mate at one point when the prison was very crowded and, when asked about it later, the cell mate said he was a nice guy but clearly didn’t want him in there and that the cell was drafty.

I still don't understand how he could bust through that thick of a cast iron pipe with a rock and then make a hole large enough for his body.

The rock hammer was very obviously stored in the hole he built, there was no “tunnel”. It was a plan 20 years in the making, not a 20 year project

Or you know, in the Bible, since they actually showed the perfect cut out of it.

I heard from somewhere that the pipe might have been clay. I don’t know much about early 20th century prison plumbing, but I can buy that.

As for the sewage shooting out when he busts the pipe; an open ended sewage drain line will not have pressure in it. Maybe it’s sewage splashing up from a large chunk of pipe falling in.

Didn’t his cell get tossed one time and he stood in front of the poster and afterwards the warden pointed at the poster and made some remark about he didn’t like the poster.

And the warden was holding the Bible and told him salvation would come from within. The warden was psychic and didn’t even know it. Andy grinned at him and told him yes sir or something like that

No doubt this was part of what is called a "combined system". Pipes that carry sewage to a treatment plant (or some type of septic tank) are the same pipes that carry rainwater drainage. During large storm events, the mixed rainwater and sewage water are too much to handle, and a lot of it goes directly into outfalls for rainwater-- creeks, rivers, etc.

There is still one at the bottom of my driveway in Birmingham. The main drain out of my house exits at the rear, angles over towards a cleanout at the edge of the yard, and from there connects into a drainage ditch. Underneath my driveway is a 2 foot drain pipe that collects from a storm drain across the street. Both of those flow through the little ditch and connect into a storm drain/sewer on the road behind me. I wouldn't have thought that was still common, but about 10 years ago we had some backup, and the sewer company came out to replace a pipe. Had to dig up about 15 feet in my yard to replace it, and I saw the connections into the sewer drain, which led straight to the ditch.

Wouldn't want to spoil a 30 year old movie and a 40 year old book.
