So his oldest son is in Rome. Did they say anything about the daughter? I half expected her to show up at the battle.

I was kind of surprised they didn’t mention her at all.

I finished it last night. It was good but I felt like it was all a little rushed with arcs being wrapped up a little too quickly. I think this would have made a really good final season of TV rather than a movie. Plus, I was very sad that we didn't get to see Uhtred's daughter or other son. I know they mentioned the latter was studying in Rome, but they didn't mention his daughter at all. I feel like she would have shown up to fight in a battle like that if she were still alive.

That was a great ending. There were a few things that I didn't care for, but overall it was very good.

He did keep it to himself. Also I think it was less him being gay and more the other guy manipulating him.

The greatest manipulator in the world wouldn't convince a truly straight dude into taking it up the poop chute.

This is where I'm at. It was fine. Probably had my hopes up a little too much. I'm guessing they couldn't get the actress that played his daughter, but they could have at least mentioned her.

It needed another hour. Hell make it a 3 part mini series.

Production value seemed much better than the series. Maybe it was just the music and scenery?

I kept having to pull up IMDB to remember who everyone was.

Did King Edward die off screen?

That final scene with him entering the Great Hall

Of course he is because… Netflix.

I’m pretty sure the author of the book series did that. They were just being true to the source material, which is ironic after what they did to The Witcher.

It was a plot device to show the dude's manipulation of the King, having him "atone" for it by uniting England knowing the other Kings wouldn't go for it.

Can you watch this as a stand-alone and enjoy it? Or do you have to watch the associated shows prior?

You need to watch the series. You won’t be disappointed.

Pretty good overall!

I wish there was a way that they could have sped the story up and wrapped it up when the OG Alfred died. He was the true lifeblood to the Uhtred storyline, part a foe and part a lifelong brother. They were so linked and he was such an incredible actor.

The storylines and the actors since he left have been weak af. The storylines have also become soooo complicated and lack any connectivity. Out of nowhere there’s just 7 kings who show up and then gotta get killed. Way too much tried to cram into one and never landed IMO.

RIP Uhtred, though! Pour one out for the GOAT!

I guess but you would be missing out on one of the best shows Netflix has put out.

HIGHLY recommend watching the series first.

Movie was meant to wrap up the series.

The Last Kingdom is worth every minute of watching. I wish I could watch it for the first time again.

The gay Athelstan seemed a little out of left field, though it could be historically factual as he never married or had children that we know of. Rule passing to his brother wasn’t an uncommon scenario.

In Anglo-Saxon Britain the succession wasn’t as straightforward as it was post-Norman Conquest where rule passes to the eldest son. The Witan could choose to pass over the eldest in favor of another member of the royal family, in the event the eldest was not of age or displayed incompetence.
