The only person who put forth a good performance in Black Panther was Michael B Jordan.

Black Panther is now all but a shoe in for a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. Of all the comic book films that failed to garner a nomination, this one will be the first due to politics and not the quality of the film.

I've personally suspected for a long time that it would get Oscar love. The real surprise to me is Bohemian Rhapsody. It might actually get nominated for Best Picture.

Well, the only other SAG nomination for them:

Gotta be between Bale and Malek for Best Actor. Bale looks great in VICE. Can’t wait for that one

Yeah but it got a couple of Golden Globe nominations. I am sure it will get nominated for plenty of other awards. I hope the Razzies nominate it too.

If the main villain was intended to be kind of a punk bimbo, then yes. Dude's a genius.

None of the performances were bad, but they were over-the-top super hero movie performances. There wasn't a whole lot of acting craft going on because the action takes center stage.

Yep, it's been obvious for quite a while now. There's several posters here that have tried arguing that it wouldn't happen

You think? That's probably true, but I think Cooper's got a shot.

Whoa this is bad. A Star is Born was very good but also a remake and a little weak towards the end. Black Panther might not be in the top half if I ranked the Marvel movies. Haven't seen Bohemian Rhapsody but the reviews were mixed at best. And while I thought Crazy Rich Asians was a very good RomCom it's certainly not a Best Picture-caliber movie. If they're going to go completely outside the box with this year's awards, MI:Fallout and Hereditary were better than all of these movies.

I think the reviews were more of an attack on Bryan Singer than they were an attack on the film. Don't mistake me, Bohemian Rhapsody is no masterpiece, but it is very entertaining and Rami Malek delivers an incredible performance as Freddie Mercury. The whole cast did a solid job. It's been nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Drama and received a Screen Actors Guild award nomination for Best Ensemble. Its chances of actually getting nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars have risen dramatically as a result.

ETA: I also think the reviews were a byproduct of expectations. Critics wanted to see a film highlighting Mercury's struggle with HIV/AIDS. Instead, the filmmakers played it safe and went with a by-the-numbers biopic of Mercury and the band he fronted.

WTF? Emily Blunt's character was a leading role character in "A Quiet Place". In fact, I'd argue that her character was THE leading role in the movie even more so than John Krasinski's character.

I still fail to see that acting prowess he was hailed as having in Black Panther.

Chadwick Boseman was better IMO.
